Guest guest
Patti, I am on Glucophage, Actos, and Prandin and my BS was around 160 every morning. When I started my day at 160 I was struggling the rest of the day to get it back into a normal range. Not to mention my numbers being up for who knows how many hours at night. I told my doctor I was not happy with my numbers and so she started me on an insulin injection <Lantus> at night. She said my numbers should be no higher than 120 in the morning. Now with the Lantus they are around 135. It's better than 160, but still not good enough. We are slowly increasing the dose trying to get me in the correct range. I have never been able to see much results with the oral pills. They are just draining my pocketbook. With the insulin, I see results and am also feeling better. Guest guest
Yes, I think you need to get on medication, those numbers are still too high. Stay away from the sulfs -- they can cause hypos and also you have to " feed the lows " which keeps you from losing weight. If you're unclear about which meds are sulfs, here's a list: Glyburide Glucotrol Glynase Diabenese Diabeta Glipizide Amaryl Glucovance (sulf plus glucophage) Vicki Dawn Effect and other stuff > > > Hi all, > I have noticed that I have high BS's early in the mornings and about > 11am they tend to regulate not quite normal but close enough. Guest guest
Another problem I have is that I'm using twice as much lantus as I was using at the end of July, but the results are very much the same. Can't quite figure that out at all. I started out at 10 units and have slowly increased mine up to 15 units. Every few units just seems to lower my numbers slightly. I will probably slowly get up to 20 units. I still have to take Prandin also during the day so I am sure I can handle some more. Kat
Guest guest
I had real bad dawn effect. I am also on Lantus. It took a few weeks for it to kick in for me, but my daytime numbers didn't really improve to the normal level, where they are now, until my endocrinologist added Avandia to my pill regimen. When I first started Lantus it worked so well I asked my doctor if I could go off some of the oral pills, but she told me the pills make your cells more sensitive to the insulin. Even with insurance it is still expensive for me with all the drugs that I take. I have to believe her and go with this, but I still think the pills are just a big waste of my money and a money making thing for the drug dealers. I have been on Glucophage, Actos, and Prandin for 2 years and have not seen any change in my BS until I started on insulin. Kat
