Does anyone know if birth control pills has an effect on the thyroid and

other things?

HI again Tigger,

I found this in the book Throid Balance. Many drugs interfere with the

absorption of thyroid hormone supplement from your intestine into your

bloodstream, or with its action once in your system. They include..estrogen

(in birth control pills of hormone replacement therapy)

I had read that progesterone cream can help with ovarian cysts.

I do not use BC pills so do not really take note of their effects when I am

reading information.....however, it seems that those nasty things ( synthetic

hormones ) effect just about every system. Do some internet searches.

Birth Control Pills

Does anyone know if birth control pills has an effect on the thyroid and

other things?

I've been taking them for ovarian cysts, and am seriously thinking of coming

off them because of depression, thyroid, weight gain, fibro and chronic

fatigue. I don't know for sure if they effect the body in that way or not.

I'm afraid if I do come off them that I will have more problems with my

cysts again. I feel like I'm in the " damned it I do, damned if I don't "

phase again.

Hugs,

Tigger

Yes, and estrogen can throw off thyroid labs, which will in turn cause

your doctor to undermedicate you. It's a viscious cycle isn't it?

P.S. I believe those on birth control pills or HRT need more thyroid meds.

My cramps and menstrual problems disappeared when I got on my optimal dose of

Armour - took about 2 or 3 cycles for them to get back to very normal -

minimal cramping...maybe 8 hrs. or less and a Tylenol took care of it. Also

decreased flow.

Suggested Use: Pro-Gest® is best used according to your menstrual status.

The following are general recommendations that should be confirmed or

modified in concert with your health care provider.

Women in their reproductive years: Pro-Gest® is best used during the second

half of your menstrual cycle, for the two weeks prior to menstruation.

Days 1 (first day of bleeding) -13: do not use Pro-Gest®.

Days 14 - 21: use ¼ teaspoon twice a day.

Days 22-28: use ¼ to ½ teaspoon of Pro-Gest® twice a day.

The suggested use is based on a 28-day cycle. If your cycle is shorter or

longer you may need to adjust the timing of use, earlier or later than day

14, to fit with ovulation. If your period begins early, STOP using the

Pro-Gest® while you are bleeding. Count the first day of bleeding as day

one, and begin the cycle again.

Women who are perimenopausal (still menstruating, with cycle changes):

Days 1 (first day of bleeding) - 7: do not use Pro-Gest®

Days 8-21: use ¼ teaspoon of Pro-Gest® twice a day.

Days 22-28: use ¼ to ½ teaspoon of Pro-Gest® twice a day.

If your period begins early, STOP using the Pro-Gest® while you are

bleeding. Count the first day of bleeding as day one, and begin the cycle

again. If your period is late, use the cream for up to 3 weeks (day 28 of

your cycle), then take a week off. If your period has not started by the end

of the week off, resume use of the cream as described above for days 8-28 or

until your period starts. STOP the cream when your period begins. Count the

first day of bleeding as day one of your cycle, and begin the cycle over

again.

Women who are menopausal or post-menopausal (no longer menstruating): Choose

a calendar day (e.g. first day of the month) as day one.

Days 1-7: do not use Pro-Gest®.

Days 8-30 (or 31): use 1/8 to ¼ teaspoon of Pro-Gest® twice a day.

If needed, you may use up to ½ teaspoon of Pro-Gest® twice a day according

to the same schedule.

Hi, Sammie,

First of all, it's great to meet you and have you join us! So sorry about your

dilemma! Concerning your

PMS and cramps, I'd like to suggest you looking into natural progesterone. I

have more info on it if you'd

like me to send it to you. But here's a link and that mention it MIGHT help

with the cramps.

http://womenshealth.about.com/cs/crampsmenstrual/a/cramps.htm

I know it's listed to help with PMS. I sure hope you find the answers you need

to reach better health. If

you'd like me to send you more info, let me know. I do have info on joining a

list like this one on natural

HRT that shows you how to get some natural Progesterone cream (Endau) for a

discounted price.

I wish you the best!

in VA.

Hello All,

I'm new to this group. I recently tried taking Armour, but had some pretty

bad

side effects. I was diagnosed with Grave's disease about 9 months ago, yet I

had all the symptoms of low thyroid, with the exception of Grave's eye

disease. Unfortunately for me, Armour made my eyes worse. I think it may be

due to the fact that I'm allergic to diary, pork and lamb. Instead of just

taking

meds for my overactive thyroid, I've been taking Tapazole in addition to

Cytomel and Synthroid. I'm hoping this will help my eye disease and increase

my metabolism, which has always been a problem. I hate the idea of being

on Synthyroid but don't really know what other natural options I have with my

food allergies.

Due to severe PMS and cramps, I've been on the birth control pill for several

years. I'm just starting to hear how estrogen can complicate thyroid disease

and am wondering if I'm doing myself a disservice by continuing taking the

pill. However, I worry about going back to a diffcult life of severe cramps

if I

stop. I'm not sure what is worse.

I have been taking my bc pill at night around the same time as my Tapazole

and then taking the Synthroid and Cytomel in the am upon waking. Based on

the last post, I'm guessing this is a bad idea!! Over the course of the last

few

months since I changed from just taking the Tapazole alone, to adding they

Synthroid and Cytomel, my rising am body temp has decreased. My instinct is

to go off the pill, but the idea of it scares me a bit. The other idea is to

increase my Synthroid and/or Cytomel as well, but I'm not sure if I can get my

doctor to agree to this.

I have a pretty dense Endo doctor who has no opinion on the pill and it's

interactions so I've been relying on sites like this for info and advice. I'd

love

to hear others take on this.

Sorry for the ramble, as I said I'm knew to the group, so I felt the need to

join in

the venting........

Sammie
