Guest guest
, My homopathic doctor diagnosed me with Candida (from BC, antibiotics, etc). She gave me Diflucan (30 days) and an internal cyprical acid " purge " treatment. (None of it helped) Do you think the diet really helped you? I keep trying to do it but then get depressed by the pain and want to eat bad things It doesn't give me a lot of hope to try such a restrictive diet when it doesn't work in the long run. Sorry you are worse again. I have felt like the good days almost make it worse, because you feel like it is possible to be better, but it just won't stay around!!! Guest guest
kathleen-- yes, absolutely. i followed an anti-candida diet very strictly for 5 months and all of my vaginal syptoms were totally gone. actually they started disappearing after the first 3 weeks. i had previously felt so bad that i thought i was dying, that i would die because i couldn't find a doctor to help me. i am having a relapse now, but did not have any vaginal symptoms at all for nearly 5 years. i followed the book the complete candida yeast guidebook by jeanne marie martin. however, i was not as informed then as i am now and it seems like it's possible to not have to follow such a strict diet if you do some serious preliminary investigating. i recently got connected with dr. marjorie crandall who runs yeast consulting services. i HIGHLY RECOMMEND you google her and order her book. she has an information packet/book that is the most comprehensive and useful guide to vulvodynia and related issues i have ever come across, by far. it is more far more common than we're led to believe to have types of yeast that do not respond to diflucan, or even any of those types of medicine. so just because you didn't respond to that medicine doesn't mean your problems aren't yeast-related. well, i really could go on and on about this. email me individually if you like and i'd be happy to share whatever i can with you. good luck julie > > > > hi everyone, > > > > i just wanted to introduce myself. i am so happy to be here. i am > 25 yrs old and none of > > my friends deal with anything like this and really don't > understand what i'm going through > > (nor any other type of chronic pain). it makes me feel really > isolated and sad. > > > > i'm not sure exactly what's going on with me. i haven't found a > decent doctor yet. i can't > > believe how unhelpful so many of them are! i don't understand it, > when there is all this > > research out there to help people in our situation, and they just > don't know anything about > > it. it is maddening...and it makes me feel like i'm the crazy one! > > > > i made an appointment with a dr. nyirjesy in philadelphia (i am in > baltimore) who is a > > vaginitis specialist. i wonder if anyone has ever seen him and > what kind of experience you > > had? > > > > about 5 years ago i had an episode like this for many months and > the pain was a lot worse > > than it is now. i eventually " cured " it (at least temporarily) by > following a super strict anti- > > candida diet for five months. i know it's a controversial thing > and a lot of people think it's > > a load of crap, and i might have too if it didn't give me such > dramatic relief after the > > doctors flat out told me they couldn't help me. > > > > so i am not new to this scene, but i was hoping it would never > come back again... > > > > anyway, it's just so nice to know you all are out there feeling > something similar to what i'm > > feeling. > > > > looking forward to talking with you all, > > > > julie > > >
Guest guest
Did she culture the swab to identify the strain. Perhaps the strain you have does not respond to Diflucan. If she didn't do a culture, perhaps you don't have yeast at all and the doc was 'assuming' that yeast is the problem, as many do. Guest guest
The doc. did a stool sample and found more yeast than is normal. That, and my symptons and past illnesses, is what led to the diagnosis. I have never had a complete vaginal yeast culture for different strains. I do have a appt. with a new GYN the end of April. She comes highly recommended by my primary physician. A complete culture/vaginal lab is one of the things I want to go over with her. I am keeping my fingers crossed that she is one of the open minded docs. > > > > hi everyone, > > > > i just wanted to introduce myself. i am so happy to be here. i am > 25 yrs old and none of > > my friends deal with anything like this and really don't > understand what i'm going through > > (nor any other type of chronic pain). it makes me feel really > isolated and sad. > > > > i'm not sure exactly what's going on with me. i haven't found a > decent doctor yet. i can't > > believe how unhelpful so many of them are! i don't understand it, > when there is all this > > research out there to help people in our situation, and they just > don't know anything about > > it. it is maddening...and it makes me feel like i'm the crazy one! > > > > i made an appointment with a dr. nyirjesy in philadelphia (i am in > baltimore) who is a > > vaginitis specialist. i wonder if anyone has ever seen him and > what kind of experience you > > had? > > > > about 5 years ago i had an episode like this for many months and > the pain was a lot worse > > than it is now. i eventually " cured " it (at least temporarily) by > following a super strict anti- > > candida diet for five months. i know it's a controversial thing > and a lot of people think it's > > a load of crap, and i might have too if it didn't give me such > dramatic relief after the > > doctors flat out told me they couldn't help me. > > > > so i am not new to this scene, but i was hoping it would never > come back again... > > > > anyway, it's just so nice to know you all are out there feeling > something similar to what i'm > > feeling. > > > > looking forward to talking with you all, > > > > julie > > > > > > > > > > **IF REPLYING TO THIS POST, PLEASE REMOVE ORIGINAL POST, THANKS** > > Our HOME page is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VulvarDisorders > to search our archives, files, articles, etc. > > ***
Guest guest
30 days of Diflucan, that's scary. I'd be afraid it would wipe out necessary bacteria and make me worse. Are you going to continue to take it or just wait til you see the new doc? Are u saying this homeopathic doc cultured the stool to ascertain an overgrowth (infection)? Oh my, if it were me I'd forgo further treatment along this vein until I saw a new doc. Re: intro - Candida diet The doc. did a stool sample and found more yeast than is normal. Guest guest
hi everyone-- i have a lot to say on these topics. i have suffered from chronic intestinal yeast infections as well as vaginal ones and have been through the gamut of information, tests, treatments, etc and i am by no means a doctor (hell, but we all know that doctors don't always know best for us!) but i have done a ton of research and have successfully alleviated most of my symptoms. i have a couple comments on recent conversations... i know that the topic of yeast is controversial. a big reason for this is that intestinal, vaginal and chronic yeast overgrowth is CAUSED by medications that conventional doctors use, and they have a lot to lose if they admit that these medications cause disease. also, a couple decades ago a few uninformed, high-brow doctors who had not seen patients with the disease published a couple articles refuting the books and articles written on the topic forever depriving suffering patients of the treatment they need. " alternative " doctors have embraced the " theory " giving it the reputation as being an unsound diagnosis. the thing is that these practitioners are more open-minded about the shortfalls of conventional medicine and while they might not be bonified experts on the disease process at least they ACKNOWLEDGE that it exists. there is solid research proving that yeast can be nestled under the skin where it is NOT detected by cultures, swabs, etc. and meanwhile causes inflammation, burning and pain! there are other tests that can be done to determine if you have yeast overgrowth in your body. moreover, someone with serious yeast overgrowth will need long term treatment with anti-fungals and 2 days or a week of treatment is not going to be nearly enough. in addition, anti-fungal drugs are only one component of the necessary steps to recovery. also, if you've recently taken anti-fungal drugs, i.e. in the last month, all cultures will be negative. but that does not mean that you don't have yeast in your vaginal tissues or anywhere else in your body. it's just that the antifungal drugs stop it from growing (so it won't grow in a culture), but they don't KILL the yeast. so you're still inflamed and in pain. it is true also that different breeds of yeast will only respond to certain medications, so if you don't respond to diflucan it doesn't mean it's not yeast. well, i could go on and on about this. if people are curious you can email me off-list. if you want more information on the topic i suggest you contact dr. marjorie crandall via her website, who has been researching this topic for more than 30 years. julie > > > > > > hi everyone, > > > > > > i just wanted to introduce myself. i am so happy to be here. i am > > 25 yrs old and none of > > > my friends deal with anything like this and really don't > > understand what i'm going through > > > (nor any other type of chronic pain). it makes me feel really > > isolated and sad. > > > > > > i'm not sure exactly what's going on with me. i haven't found a > > decent doctor yet. i can't > > > believe how unhelpful so many of them are! i don't understand it, > > when there is all this > > > research out there to help people in our situation, and they just > > don't know anything about > > > it. it is maddening...and it makes me feel like i'm the crazy > one! > > > > > > i made an appointment with a dr. nyirjesy in philadelphia (i am > in > > baltimore) who is a > > > vaginitis specialist. i wonder if anyone has ever seen him and > > what kind of experience you > > > had? > > > > > > about 5 years ago i had an episode like this for many months and > > the pain was a lot worse > > > than it is now. i eventually " cured " it (at least temporarily) by > > following a super strict anti- > > > candida diet for five months. i know it's a controversial thing > > and a lot of people think it's > > > a load of crap, and i might have too if it didn't give me such > > dramatic relief after the > > > doctors flat out told me they couldn't help me. > > > > > > so i am not new to this scene, but i was hoping it would never > > come back again... > > > > > > anyway, it's just so nice to know you all are out there feeling > > something similar to what i'm > > > feeling. > > > > > > looking forward to talking with you all, > > > > > > julie > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > **IF REPLYING TO THIS POST, PLEASE REMOVE ORIGINAL POST, THANKS** > > > > Our HOME page is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VulvarDisorders > > to search our archives, files, articles, etc. > > > > ***
Guest guest
But, then it is also true that MANY docs will 'assume' you have standard yeast and treat you for it when there is no problem. A 30 day course of Diflucan without a culture to type the strain is a scary proposition in my opinion... and may even be dangerous given its effects on the liver. What other tests are there, as y ou note below, for determiningg yeast overgrowth in the body? It would be interesting to read something about this. I have heard about the theory of 'nestled' yeast, but I have to tell you, I haven't really read a lot that confirms it it anything more than a theory as of yet. My docs (as least 3 of them) offered me long term Diflucan 'in case there is some credence to this argument', even though I cultured out negative for infection/overgrowth. This was offered to me on the first visit to my first VV specialist and it was easy to see that it was just someting to throw at me to make me think he was doing something for me. Guest guest
Go to the Great Smokies Web Site and print out their information about vaginal cultures. Ask your doctor to order the kit from them. It was the best test I have ever used. They also have the stool sample kits for candida. Guest guest
i know there are others but all the doctors i've seen have used the great smokies diagnostic laboratory. they have various blood, stool and vaginal tests also, you can take 200 mg of alpha lipoic acid daily while you are taking diflucan, ketoconazole or another antifungal drug to protect your liver. someone else posted the great smokies website, but it's www.gsdl.com. also, they will email a list of doctors in your area who use their tests. i know that everyone's case is different, but for me all of this stuff has been extremely helpful..... julie > > > > > > > > hi everyone, > > > > > > > > i just wanted to introduce myself. i am so happy to be here. i am > > > 25 yrs old and none of > > > > my friends deal with anything like this and really don't > > > understand what i'm going through > > > > (nor any other type of chronic pain). it makes me feel really > > > isolated and sad. > > > > > > > > i'm not sure exactly what's going on with me. i haven't found a > > > decent doctor yet. i can't > > > > believe how unhelpful so many of them are! i don't understand it, > > > when there is all this > > > > research out there to help people in our situation, and they just > > > don't know anything about > > > > it. it is maddening...and it makes me feel like i'm the crazy > > one! > > > > > > > > i made an appointment with a dr. nyirjesy in philadelphia (i am > > in > > > baltimore) who is a > > > > vaginitis specialist. i wonder if anyone has ever seen him and > > > what kind of experience you > > > > had? > > > > > > > > about 5 years ago i had an episode like this for many months and > > > the pain was a lot worse > > > > than it is now. i eventually " cured " it (at least temporarily) by > > > following a super strict anti- > > > > candida diet for five months. i know it's a controversial thing > > > and a lot of people think it's > > > > a load of crap, and i might have too if it didn't give me such > > > dramatic relief after the > > > > doctors flat out told me they couldn't help me. > > > > > > > > so i am not new to this scene, but i was hoping it would never > > > come back again... > > > > > > > > anyway, it's just so nice to know you all are out there feeling > > > something similar to what i'm > > > > feeling. > > > > > > > > looking forward to talking with you all, > > > > > > > > julie > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > **IF REPLYING TO THIS POST, PLEASE REMOVE ORIGINAL POST, THANKS** > > > > > > Our HOME page is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VulvarDisorders > > > to search our archives, files, articles, etc. > > > > > > ***
