It sounds like Hashimoto's to me. In the earlier stages, you can swing between hyper and hypo. Right this moment, you may be experiencing hyper swings. You NEED to get antibody testing. You will have to push hard. My mom is in Toronto, and her doctor flat out refused. I pushed her to push her doctor and her the doc examine a very blatant neck swelling (these doctors are ridiculous), and she fially agreed. Results will be in on Monday. ANyway, I remember being very anxious and a sudden worry wart around my teens. Then the heart palpitations kicked in, then cold hands and feet, mildweight gain (but would lose it because I'd lose my appetite), severe insomnia, stomach upset blahh..blah..blah. Oh yah,m and high cholesterol (that's should have signaled an alarm to my docs because this was in my early 20's). Did you say that you have thyroid disease in your family??? P.S. I am in Alliston, Ontario (near Barrie) if you didn't get my last post.
Guest guest
No I never mentioned that thyroid problems ran in my family but my grandmother on my mother's side did have a severe case of hypothyroidism and was on thyroxine in her late life. I suspect that my mother and sister aswell as myself all have thyroid problems but Im the only one who seems to care enough to find out! Ive had an antibodies test done before by a naturopathic doctor in the summer of 2003 and she told me it appeared normal. Maybe Im just hypothyroid. > > Im a 20 year old male. > > > > > Let me start off by listing what Im experiencing at the moment, > > and if anyone can give me an idea of what they think is wrong, > > please let me know. > > > > -heat intolerance > > > > -hot flashes with flushing > > > -light sweating (moist oily sensation) -if i sit on the couch > > too long when i get up its all soaking > > -redness of skin > > > > -burning sensation in soles of feet > > > > loss of libido > el is elevated at 3. > > It sounds like Hashimoto's to me. Guest guest
You're not boring me! I'm trying to remember since I'm fairly new to this group, you're male, correct? Let me start off by listing what Im experiencing at the moment, and if anyone can give me an idea of what they think is wrong, please let me know. -heat intolerance this can be thyroid or adrenal related (You may want to do some reading on www.drrind.com ) -hot flashes with flushing Here's 3 separate searches I did on hot flashes in men: Hot flashes in a man are unusual. Some medications like niacin result in flushing. An overactive thyroid or some excess hormones of the adrenal gland might also be the cause. I'm afraid I have no other ideas, but an endocrinologist might be able to figure it out. It may surprise you that men have hot flashes too. They can get them if undergoing treatment for prostrate cancer using anti-testosterone therapy, using thermal blankets and from alcohol, hot liquids and other substances. Both estrogen and testosterone seem to protect against frequent hot flashes. If either of those hormones are withdrawn after one's body is used to them, a rapid increase in skin temperature due to dilatation of the skin blood vessels can occur very frequently. While these hormones protect from frequent hot flashes, many other events and ingested substances can also cause the skin vessels to rapidly dilate and release heat. Although hot flashes usually are considered to be a female problem, men also can have hot flashes if their levels of the male sex hormone testosterone drop suddenly and dramatically. For example, hot flashes occur in 75 percent of men with prostate cancer who have surgery to remove the testes (orchiectomy) or who take medication to decrease testosterone levels. Also, symptoms that mimic hot flashes can occur in both men and women who have a tumor of the hypothalamus or pituitary gland, certain serious infections such as tuberculosis or HIV, alcoholism or thyroid disorders. Symptoms that are similar to hot flashes also can be a side effect of the food additive monosodium glutamate (MSG), or of certain medications, particularly nitroglycerin (sold under many brand names), nifedipine (Procardia, Adalat), niacin (numerous brand names), vancomycin (Vancocin) and calcitonin (Calcimar, Cibacalcin, Miacalcin). -light sweating (moist oily sensation) -if i sit on the couch too long when i get up its all soaking this might be hormonal as well -redness of skin are you red all over or certain places? Was it here that we had a discussion of red palms and liver function was mentioned? The redness might just be a part of the flashes -burning sensation in soles of feet I've always heard that his is from diabetes -loss of libido this can be loss of testosterone or progesterone. -fatigue but cant fall asleep Progesterone has a calming effect. It can help with sleep. Many think progesterone is a woman's hormone. But both men and women have it. Progesterone is a precursor of the other sex hormones, including estrogen and testosterone, it's also a precursor of cortisone synthesis by adrenal cortex, it helps in thyroid function action, restores sex drive, helps normalize blood sugar levels. -irritability Irritability is known to accompany depression, but I think it arises when we just don't feel good! Hormones play a role in this too. -HIGH anxiety which is very intense, I jump at the slightest thing, very hard to control and deep breathing doesnt relax me physically This sounds like adrenals. I think it's mentioned on Dr. Rind's site I gave you. -dry skin, dry mouth I had dry skin until my thyroid was adequately treated. Dry mouth can come from certain medications but also diabetes. Thats just a brief list.. I Can go on but dont want to bore you guys. If anyone can give me some answers.. I already know I have diabetes and my TSH level is elevated at 3. More on progesterone. There is an over the counter cream you can buy. But be careful. Some people think the creams with wild yam can be converted to progesterone. But it has to be converted in the lab. So if you get a cream with wild yam, make sure it says it has progesterone in it too. I know Walmart sells a cream. I can send you info for a group list like this, where you can order a cream at a discount price if you're interested. But this site is specifically for men. My husband is 55 years old and is using the cream. I think it's 1/4 tsp. recommended for men. You can find out for sure in this group list. Best of luck to you! in VA.
