Hello everyone!

My name is , and I am currently expecting my second child on

OCT 5th. I have a daughter already that will be 10 in June, so I am

starting all over =). I nursed my daughter until she was 10 months

old, but she was in the day care center in the building next to the

one I worked in, so I could nurse at lunch and on breaks. I don't

have that luxury this time, so I will have to pump a lot more. We

live in Kansas City, and I am active duty Navy. I look forward to

meeting everyone on the list!

I was on the Depo Shot with my first son, he nursed fairly often as well.

Every two hrs...but my milk supply was just fine and he gained lots of

weight...don't worry about nursing your baby too much. : ) If DR. said she

is gaining and healthy the you are doing just fine! GOOD LUCK : )

always makes me angry to hear. I am glad that you stuck to your guns and are

It is SOOO worth it:) I too had a c-section so I can understand the

difficulties that can create, and I am here if you have any ?? about that

end of it I am glad you were able to over come the obstacles that hit

The Isis is a GREAT pump! I have the Medela Little hearts and it sucks

(well, not really- that's the problem) I haven't pumped much lately because

I don't go anywhere, and maybe your body needs to adjust to a pump, but I

could always get more with the isis.

I bought the Medela Little Hearts manual pump for a stand-by and can't get

a thing with it. I can hand-express faster than I can get milk with that

pump! I also have used the Medela Spring Express manual pump, and it is

awesome... as are their electric pumps.

I used to have a MagMag and it really sucked. Horribly. Too much suction.

I have used them and they are great!! There pump is so so but it's not bad

for a hand pump I guess. Well worth the money. I would just count yourself

lucky he won't take a passifer. It can cause alot of problems and are hard

(on some baby's) to give up.

I had a mini electric medela and couldn't let down to it in a year. I had

the Isis for a week and got over 5 oz and got to go out. It was great. I

was thinking about trying the insert in my mini electric to see if that

helped. If not the Isis is fine with me.

Thanks for the info. I ahve an Evenflo pump (cause that's the cheapest

battery/electric one I could find). I like it alright. I really despise

pumping though. LOL I was thinking of buying some nipples from the Avent

company to see if my son would like those better.

Target and I am very happy with it.

Beware of pumps made from manufacturers of formula or formula-required

products!

I posted a chart of various types of pumps, and the biggest difference

between a good pump and a bad pump isn't price, but suction, and the cycle

of suction and release. An Evenflo pump cycled at most 15 times per minute

with adequate suction... which makes it a bad pump compared to a full-size

electric pump that cycles up to 60 times a minute with full suction.

Even if WIC gives you a manual Medela hand pump, you can get better suction

control (you determine how much suction) and the piston part of the pump is

hand controlled, but you can easily cycle more than once every 4 seconds!

A cycle should closely match the way your baby nurses, in suck-release

patterns and degrees of suction. An Evenflo, MagMag or Gerber doesn't have

that option.

As for prices, I think Wendi said that her Avent Isis manual pump cost $40,

a Medela Spring Express manual pump costs $25, and a good electric pump

that is in the low price range would cost about $70. When you stop to

think about the money, you're talking about a few cans of powdered formula

that you may HAVE to use if you lose your supply because of a bad pump.

Renting a full-size pump costs about $30 per month.

If money is the issue, find a private pump rental station and be honest

about your situation with the owner. She may be able to work something out

with you.

I remember the LC at my hospital said " buy ANY pump except the evenflow...it

can do permanant damage to your nipples "
