Well you know have blood types are A, B, O or AB? It also has a -

or +. In my case I am B-. the - stands for the RH factor.

Rh blood typing determines the presence (+) or absence (–) of the Rh

antigen (also called the Rh factor). If your red blood cells:

Contain the Rh antigen, your blood is Rh-positive.

Do not contain the Rh antigen, your blood is Rh-negative.

Human blood is typed by the presence of certain markers (called

antigens) on the surface of red blood cells. Blood received in a

transfusion must contain antigens that are the same as the antigens

on the recipient's own red blood cells (compatible blood). If a

person receives a transfusion of blood containing different antigens

(incompatible blood), the person's immune system destroys the

transfused blood cells. This destruction is called a transfusion

reaction and can cause serious illness or even death.

If the blood of a fetus that has Rh-positive blood mixes with the

blood of an Rh-negative woman during pregnancy or delivery, the

woman's immune system produces antibodies against her fetus's red

blood cells. This antibody response is called Rh sensitization and,

depending on when it occurs, can destroy the fetus's red blood

cells. Once sensitization has occurred, the fetus can develop mild

to severe problems (called Rh disease, hemolytic disease of the

newborn, or erythroblastosis fetalis). If untreated, complications

from sensitization can, in rare cases, lead to the death of an Rh-

positive fetus.

I am not totally sure, hopefully someone will jump in But I will try.

The RH factor determines if they is a thin coding over the red blood

cell (+) or if it is missing (-) I have always thought of if as a

red blood cell layer of skin.

I am B- my Husband is 0+, our first child is B+, #2 0-

, #3 is B+.
