Hi Gwen, I have pizza once a month or so for lunch. I'll eat one slice with crust, then eat the topping off of the other two slices. I do walk afterwards (shopping) so it does not affect my bg's. Guest guest
If you can, make your own pizza?? and use whole grain crust. It isn't as fluffy as the white type, but you can pick up the dough at the store in the deli some places... I make my own, but haven't found the perfect recipe for crust yet... also, watch the sauce that you put on their... as it can contain added sugars. I also make my own of that. Though I do it while canning at the end of summer... Angelia in OR Pizza > Is there any way at all to make pizza work in a diabetic meal? I know > when I had GD, I was never able to make it work. Guest guest
It's all about portion control and ingredients. You can still eat pizza but perhaps one slice instead of 3 or 4 slices with some salad and a 4 oz. glass of red wine. You can also make low carb/low fat pizza at home. They have pizza mixes that are low carb. Make one of those (thin crust), some plain tomato sauce, and small amount of cheese or lowfat cheese or more parmesan than mozzarella. Then you can eat about 3 slices. They sell the low carb crust in the store now, even flavored with garlic, etc. I buy my stuff at www.perfectlysweet.com diabetes , bggagne4@j... wrote: > Is there any way at all to make pizza work in a diabetic meal? Guest guest
MESSAGE EDITED BY MODERATOR I got this receipe from a magazine in the eat smart section. I use it often. I got the boboli bread, moz, tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil. I usually add some kind of emeril seasoning and it works and is very tasty. The original recipe called for green, yellow and red peppers. If I find it I'll send it to you but those are the basic ingredients.
