Guest guest
Deb, Exactly HOW do you get those tickets??? I would LOVE to have something like that.... Gene won't let me do anything like that. He will literally throw a fit and argue with me if I do or say anything to people that does stuff like this. He says that my mouth will get me into trouble one of these times.....and He won't be there to keep me from getting hurt.... Well, the way I look at it, is when we drive my car, it has Handicapped Plates on it. We park in the Handicapped spots then.....so that I don't have to walk that far. BUT, if we drive the truck or NoraBelle's Van.....and I forget to grab my parking tag for the Mirror....he won't park in a handicapped spot, but he will try to park as close to the place as possible for me. He won't let me say anything at all to the jerks.....and, won't let me throw a fit at the Curtosey Counter..... Darn it. Tonia -------Original Message------- Hi Guys,I use to get mad when people would gawk at me when I parked in handicap , waiting to see if I limp or whatever. Sometimes even if I feel I need to limp, I don't just to spite them,. lolI ordered handicapped parking tickets from the registry of motor vehicles. I keep them in my glove compartment and use them when I can't believe that people without a handicapped plate parkThey come in a note pad that you tear off one at a time. I place the 'ticket' under the wiper, it looks real, I forget exactly what it says but basically tells the driver I had to walk long distances because of their lack of consideration and ignorance. I have also gone to the service desk of stores and have police give a ticket, I believe they are $50.00 tickets. It use to get me so mad when I would get out of my car and see noHandi-plate on the car in the handicapped parking space so, these 'tickets' make me feel better! Guest guest
Re: Re: Deb G/Handicapped parking Tonia, I just recieved my handicapped placard, after putting off ordering it for months, still hoping for some miracle I guess. Anyway, I haven't used it yet, was all set to today when wonder of wonders I found really close spots at all the places I went - so couldn't see the point! Anyway, I've been thinking a lot about it, and how TOS and nerve damage are invisible, and how at 42 I look fine and in no way disabled. I have an arm brace they gave me to use after surgery, and I am planning to continue to use that for a while, both so the arm doesn't get bumped - OW!!! - and so there IS a visible sign of disability! But I can't see using it forever, after I totally heal from the surgery - that is, unless I need one on the other side as well! Then what? I already know I will get cr*p from people who don't believe you are disabled unless they can see it. How will I respond?? I don't know, and that's the truth!! But I do think, and hope all here will remember too, that if I see someone without a handicapped placard or plates using a handicapped spot, that FIRST I will be real sure that they really are abusers - with my head I could have forgotten and left it in my purse or on the front seat! If I left it at home, too bad, I will have to lump it, but if I have it with me I could see me forgetting to make sure I put it on the mirror. Yesterday I left the lights on and ran down the car battery and my husband had to come from work and jump my car so I could go home from shopping - and man, I was hurting, and tired, and just plain feeling bad - but dumb thing is I don't even know why lights were on in first place, it was a bright sunny day!! So just in case that person is like me, or IS me, ask if they forgot to put their placard on the mirror before blasting them, OK?? If they are abusing, I think rather than confronting them, cause I can't risk any more stress or physical pain!!, I will write down their license # and demand the store mgr call it in. Oh, and if the disabled person is not getting out of the car, they can't use that parking spot, it is only for the benefit of the disabled person who is going to get out of the car and go into the place of business, not their spouse, child, or friend to use while the disabled person stays in the car! I WOULD like to get some pamphlets abt Invisible disabilities to pass out to people who question why I have a handicapped placard, maybe for good days I will memorize a 5-minute spiel and bore them to tears, even invite myself over to their house so I can share more info with them, give them internet sites and offer to have my Dr call them. On bad days I may just reply "I have chronic pain due to severe nerve damage -you have a nice day now" and walk away - I don't owe anyone ANY explanation - of course it will all depend on how they approach me and how I am feeling at that moment! Just some thoughts! beth
Guest guest
I haven't been confronted yet surprisingly!! I get looks but nobody has approached me and said anything to me. I just figure if anyone ever does I will roll up my pant leg, show them my knee and ask if they have any more questions...lol Lori
