Hi Ken, I don't know about your doctor, but most doctors would try a combination of meds before putting someone on insulin. Eunice
Guest guest
I think that is what I remember from those classes also. My last a1c was 7 2 though and I take metformin 850 mgs twice a day. In the morning before I even eat anything my bg's been averaging around 160. I wonder at what numbers they start putting ya on insulin as well as medication. Ken GreyEagle -- ac1 When I attended a special diabetes education workshop last fall, they said that " 7.0 or below " was good. Organ damage should not happen in tht range. Guest guest
That's true, Eunice. For some reason I hadn't thought of that when I was writing that email. Knowing my doctor she would try combinations of drugs first. I really like her. She diagnosed me six years ago and has been very thorough in all she has done for me. Guest guest
May last A1C was 6.4; the one before that (3 months earlier) was 6.1 and my dr has been very happy with those. I am still trying to lose weight...that would help. And I'm doing CURVES (women's exercise program) now too, for about 2 months. Funny....I haven't noticed any significant change in my BG numbers because of the exercise. I had heard it would make a difference? As far as meds...it seems to be different from dr to dr. That's what the diabetes educators told me, although she said it makes sense to go on the meds if your body needs them to help prevent organ damage. That made sense to me. It's only a pill...why not take it in order to help the situation? It's not a sign of 'defeat,' in my opinion. It's just something that will help balance my disease out, for my body's benefit. maralee ***** **** I think that is what I remember from those classes also. ****My last a1c was 7 2 though and I take metformin 850 mgs ****twice a day.
