Dr. Baquero is known to use a lot of medication. In fact he's had a lawsuit against him from a well known DAN physician for overmedicating two of his patients.

I have been to Dr baquero and he is ok was kind of quick to say that my 18 month old will someday needs meds and that didn't sit well with me. good luck with your appointment

Thanks for

this info Theresa. I had heard some good reports about him from some

other parents but this in definitely good to know. However, I am not

looking to put Ella on Meds, at least not at this time but I need an official diagnosis

in order to apply for the medwaiver. The last medical diagnosis she had was at

3 and was PDDNOS. Want to have it re-diagnosed as Autism.

Hello everyone.

I don't post often but wanted to mention something here about the doctor that

asked the parent what kind of diagnosis she wanted, language delayed vs. autism.

One reason the doctor could possibly be asking a parent that is to help with

insurance coverage. Our United Healthcare pays for speech and language therapy

for autism, but not for PDD-NOS. Hence, the doctor giving " autism " as the

diagnosis will enable coverage to kick in. He might be trying to help, and not

be a doofus.

let me quickly hasten to add that I don't know the situation at all, and don't

know anything more than what I've read here, and the people involved know the

circumstances better than I ever could. But from my superficial read, this is

what I thought of first.

Dawn,

I know it was wrong for the doctor to ask you which diagnosis you wanted, but,

(I am still of the opinion he was wrong) sometimes people do not want a

diagnosis of autism and get angry when it is given. Other people don't mind that

diagnosis, as they can then start the proper treatments, and with that diagnosis

can get the insurance to cover therapies. It is also the diagnosis to get

certain services such as SSDI, Voc. Rehab., etc. When I worked for a

neurologist, he was often yelled at and had nasty confrontations with parents

who didn't want their child labeled 'autistic'. Some families found it offensive

and a 'mark against' their family.
