HI C. You said your doctor said this........

''She said if a woman has chronic yeast infections irritating the skin, it can eventually cause nerve pain.''

I sure can agree with that...... I think any chronic long term trauma (even if it's constant itch/scratch) to the tissue can do that so it sure makes sense to me and I think that's why too often some women think they still have a yeast problem when it may be the nerve condition left over from the doggone meds too. *sigh*

I got VV after my last dose of Flagyl for supposed BV which I have been told by the last few docs that I probably never had since in the last 2 years I havent had it again since its one of those recurrent infections, plus I had never had even a yeast infection before that! I had more than normal discharge that I complained about and after the Flagyl and all the creams didnt work he changed my BC's because he was not sure what was causing it. He had me on Flagyl for 10 months! I asked about it causing yeast and he said it wouldnt. I met a girl on another board that was on it and it gave her an awful infection and she also got VV just after taking it. Which is why I think most of my problem is fungal related. My gyn is calling me today and I am just not sure if I want to ask for Doxepin cream. Creams are so irritating for me. I think ill check real quick and see if theres an ointment. Its worth a try. Meanwhile I am cleansing for fungus bigtime.

If I decide to use the cream to try it out, Ill post any results.

One lady I met a few months back uses oral Doxepin every other night and as long as she does this, she remains pain free.

HI Candi,

I sure do know what you mean about being so sensitive to almost anything so I understand how you'd feel with trying the Doxepin cream... even air or water burned me. *SIGH*

But about the Flagyl (metronidazole) for 10 months? WOW is that a long time for something sooooo potent.

''Metronidazole is classified therapeutically as an antiprotozoal <--(like w. Trichomoniasis that is passed on) and antibacterial agent''

according to the literature so it is used for BV.. but it clearly states.....

"Known or previously unrecognized candidiasis may present more prominent symptoms during therapy with Metronidazole and requires treatment with a candicidal agent."

By the way there is a 'topical' jel too but 'external' use only and I'm assuming yours was oral and not topical though.

What scares me is this & listed under 'WARNINGS' in bold letters, talk about 'nerves' being destroyed possibly!!

......."Two serious adverse reactions reported in patients treated with Flagyl (metronidazole) have been convulsive seizures and peripheral neuropathy, the latter characterized mainly by numbness or paresthesia of an extremity.''

''Since persistent peripheral neuropathy has been reported in some patients receiving prolonged administration of Metronidazole, patients should be specifically warned about these reactions and should be told to stop the drug and report immediately to their physicians if any neurologic symptoms occur."

Also it says that the 'average' oral dosage is a ONE time higher potency OR a 7 day lessor one... then it says to be retested with a six week break. Topical can be 9 weeks, so I just cannot imagine you being on an oral form for 10 MONTHS?? WOW. I just hope you didn't have any serious types of reaction though the yeast is bad enough. *SIGH* I swear sometimes the 'cure' is worse than the disease and why I just hate having to take an oral drug unless it's absolutely necessary. Even the Diflucan, *sigh* and the interactions of other things we wouldnt even think of.

Anyway hon, I just hope that if you do try the topical Doxepin cream that it helps, Good luck with it and if you do be sure to let us know how it goes.

Hugs

Dee~
