Guest guest
<< Wow. I didn't know Type 2 could/would change into Type 1. >> It can't. There is a difference between a Type 2 who was previously controlled with diet & exercise, or D & E and oral medication, but must now use insulin for better control, and a Type 1 who is insulin *dependent* and will die without injected or infused exogenous insulin. One Type cannot change into the other Type, because the " Type " is determined not by whether or not someone uses insulin to manage/control his or her diabetes, but by the underlying *cause* of the condition, i.e., the autoimmune-induced factors of Type 1 versus the myriad factors inherent in Type 2 (insulin resistance, family history, and a number of others). A Type 2 on insulin is just that: a Type 2 on insulin. He or she is *not* a Type 1 merely because he or she is now *using* insulin. That's why I've often heard those Type 2s who use insulin referred to as " Insulin Requiring " versus Type 1s being referred to as " Insulin Dependent. " I think that's actually a fairly accurate representation of the difference in the two, at least in order to differentiate as to the *reason* for the insulin use. Well, all I know, is I have heard different results on this issue with being on a couple different Diabetic groups... I guess for me, it will take some asking questions when I see my endencronologist again, and see why I once was Type 2, and not they said I am type 1..and you all saying this never happens, where in another group, they say that Medications, and other Medical issues, can cause a change. Until I guess I know the real Truth where I stand... since I have only been on Insuline since the 5th of last month, and am 40 yrs. old, then I will feel comfortable. I am finding this is a learning process, and no two people are alike. ~~TINA~~ -- Re: Was T2, now T1/Amber << Wow. I didn't know Type 2 could/would change into Type 1. >> It can't. Guest guest
Tina, We have had discussions on this list about the possible causes of Diabetes and meds have been discussed here as well. I would be interested to hear why your dr is saying that you are now Type 1 and not Type 2. I know we have had discussions in the past about Type 1 1/2 Diabetics here too but I would have to go dig thru the archives again to try and find the info on the subject. Guest guest
Well, let me discuss this with my Endencronologist when I see here on Thursday. I think it could be due to having the Chronic wounds that has broken down my Imune system, to where now my body does not want to do much on it's own. I was told this when I left the Nursing facility after being in the Hospital last month. I have only seen my endencronolist twice... But she is excellent, and came highly recommended, so she can help let me know what is going on. ~~TINA~~ -- Re: Re: Was T2, now T1/Amber Tina, We have had discussions on this list about the possible causes of Diabetes and meds have been discussed here as well.
