And he doesn't offer anything different than the other specialists that charge far less. I haven't heard anything bad about Hopkins or anything good that makes it stand out over any other university with a vulvar pain clinic. The University of Michigan has a vulvodynia clinic, I see Dr. Hope Haefner there. She's among the dozen or so specialists in the country at the forefront of the research into vv/vvs. I'm quite happy with my care there and once Haefner has seen you, she will work with your local gynecologist so he can oversee the treatment plan you have worked out with her. The problem with traveling so far to a vulvar pain clinic is that for it to be successful, you need to make follow up visits. If you can't do that and your local doctor and the specialist won't work together on your follow-up care, it's a waste of money. I would also make sure the clinic has treatment plans that you haven't tried. Guest guest
I had agreed to be part o this study a while back, but went into yeast mode about the time I was scheduled to participate in the "elder" version of this (Menopausal women). What is listed below is NOT A TREATMENT PROGRAM . They conduct tests on you, on the vulvar skin and in the vagina - using various methods to see what your responses are. This group of people have a theory that vulvodynia is neurological in nature and they are trying to prove or disprove their theory by testing a wide range of women with a given set of tests designed to illicit responses from nerves. An example, as it was explained to me, is electrical stimulation to various areas to see what the nerve response is in that area. All testing is first done in a modified form to see if you can tolerate the test, as they do not wish to add to your discomfort. According to the coordinator that I dealt with, women generally do fine through the test, without any major discomfort. Dusty Mechanisms of pain in vulvodynia in women ages 18 to 45 years.
