Wow, those medicines

This is not strictly diabetes related, but is another warning to be careful

with medications. I have had trouble sleeping for years, and recently my

doctor moved me on to Ambien to help. Wonderful drug. Could probably

sleep through surgery on it! However, on Friday evening at about 6:15 I

received a telephone call from a friend, saying he was " at the

restaurant " . Huh? I asked what he was talking about, since I knew nothing

about meeting for dinner. After finally meeting him (thinking it was a

prank), he showed me the call log on his cell phone. I had apparently

taken the medication and *then called him*, arranging a dinner for him and

my husband and myself, but having absolutely no memory of it

whatsoever. In fact, I even called my daughter and held a conversation

with her after speaking with him, and have no memory of that conversation,

either! It was really quite frightening to think that I could have done

anything under the influence of that medication and not remembered it.

I have since cut the doseage in half, and intend on speaking with my doctor

about it at my next visit. I had been having memory problems and

dizziness, but didn't associate them with the medication -- until that

event. Darned if they aren't listed side-effects, though, which I would

have known *if I'd read the insert*. Our physicians have a responsibility

about our meds, but we have personal responsibilities, too, and I fell down

on mine that time.
