Old mens's t shirts cut up and folded over - white 100% cotton, pinned to underwear is the softest and least irritating of anything I've found. The polyester ones are a no no. Or old white cotton underwear, cut up and folded over

When leaving the washing machine, they are clean. My mothers generation washed out their rags on the wash board (she was born 1926) . That's how we got the expression that gals are "on the rag".

I saw thatone of you uses Instead, but are there more of you using something else? I've always used pads, but a month ago I used tampons for the first time. Iused Tampax with the card applicator and it worked! I can't use tampons withoutapplicator because it feels like I'm to dry and hurts on the way in. I havevulvar vestibulitis and the thick Tampax string hurts my vestibule, so lasttime at the third day of my period I had such pain that I had trouble walkingand sitting. Here in Sweden everyone uses tampons without applicators (o.B) , so the onlyone available is Tampax with a card applicator and it's even hard to find. SoI'm looking for alternatives.I've read about The Keeper, The Diva cup, The Mooncup and the Instead Softcup(not reusable), and I wonder if anyone here has any experience? I have sometrouble with the idea of having to insert more than one finger, and also withthe idea of the reusable ones, doesn't feel hygienic to just wash it. ButI'm open to new ideas right now.Any input appriciated, either to the list or to me privately. Thanks!!/Sofia__________________________________________________

Hi Sofia,

I couldn't get used to the Keeper. I found that it spilled everywhere and was just messy. Maybe I just needed more practice, who knows. I've heard that sea sponges are really good, you just take it out and rinse it in water and can re-insert. There are also Luna Pads, which are made with organic 100% cotton and are machine washable. That's what I'm going to try next. Tampons are too painful, and regular pads also irritate the heck out of me. They even have underwear with the pad built in..lots of options. lunapads.com I think. Good luck!

I have heard sea sponges are really good as well. A tip on tampons, cut off the string. Thats what I do. then when you need to remove it, just push a little as if you were going to have a bowel movement and when you are able to grab ahold of it, then you can pull it out. Not the ideal way to remove it, but it beats the string irritating. I also have used an oil around the vaginal opening before inserting. This helps alot with the feeling of being too dry. I have had the same problems. These work for me. Major wrote:

About Tampons..... do they still make the Tampex brand? (it's been a while since I've needed them) but those were always the nicest to use for me. No cardboard injector with drag & friction but a nice very smooth light plastic and when wetted (on the outside) slide in very easy. You had to drop the string down inside the 'push' part of the applicator first tho as I recall. Also I used to sort of wrap the string up and over the clit hood, and down the other side between the smaller & larger labial lips (in that seam) so it was out of the way, sort of a horseshoe shape. (upside down) LOL
