Guest guest
My understanding is that if you put them in an airtight jar and store them in the dark, they will last almost forever. Dried Apples Angelia, Deb or anyone else, I have been drying apples today. How do I store them? Can I put them in a jar and store them in the pantry? Don't think they will last long? They are so good. hugs Eunice

Hi Angelia, You were so excited thinking about the pressure canner you're getting that you forgot to answer my email. You can really get excited Friday because it will be delivered that day. Enjoy it. The dried apples are so good. I'm going to the orchard again this week and get more. Will be drying apples several days. Have you ever dried tomatoes? I love storing foods in the Mason jars (have some of the old, old ones), so will use some of them for my apples. hugs Eunice
Guest guest
I replied to your email just now... LOL... I read it and said, I will reply later, and later came and went... As for drying foods, I dry everything... I haven't done tomatoes yet, partially because I didn't even get enough to make enough sauce with this year, and I forgot last year. I have dried carrots, zucchini, peas, beans, peppers (chili peppers) and most fruits. I also dry meat and jerky, and things of that sort... I store most of my dry goods in Mason Jars, or the gallon glass jars that people save for me. Though, I am working on canning my own beans (like kidney and pinto) so that I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for organic ones. I can also use whatever types of beans I want, and they don't have to have any salt or added anything in them if I don't want. I also have been canning Anaheim chili peppers, I cant see paying $1.69 for 3 little chili peppers in some water (yes organic). Chicken broth is going to be one big thing to can as well as turkey broth from my cheap turkey I get every year at thanksgiving. The greatest ones are the ones where you spend $50 and get a turkey for 19 cents a pound. When you are already planning on spending that much, it is a GREAT deal! Ok... I should be cleaning my kitchen and living room... Does anyone else preserve their own stuff?? Angelia in OR who is obsessive about her canning... ----- Original Message ----- > Hi Angelia, > You were so excited thinking about the pressure canner you're getting that > you forgot to answer my email. Guest guest
Have you contacted your county agricultural extension agent and talked to their home economist? That would probably be the best source of information for such questions. -- Dried Apples Angelia, Deb or anyone else, I have been drying apples today. How do I store them?
