when do you do your evening meal? Can it be done later?

-Been experimenting with all this lately, used to be 4 even meals, 8.00 am.

11.30 am. 3.30 pm, and 7.00pm (dinner - then straight to bed).

Then noticed after stayed up late one night after dinner (played for

about 2 hrs afterwards)that his ketones were higher than usual the next morning.

Supposition was, that he wasn't metabolising all his dinner overnight, (maybe

because of the night nitrazepam dose slowing everything down), needed either

less calories at night, or an earlier dinner- but having an earlier dnner a few

months ago saw no change in ketones, or conversely, eating later saw no

improvement.

So tried reducing the last meal of the day, and 'spread' the extra calories out

earlier on, as we had noticed him running out of steam shortly befor his middle

meals were due.

This seemed to make a difference, (got up to moderate)but only for about 2-3

days, then everything (ketone wise) returned back to normal - low again in the

morning. Reduced the last meal even further, same thing, worked a bit for 2-3

days, then back down again.

So a week ago, we tried waking at about 2 am for 5 gms oil (canola -

previous MCT trial was a disaster). Again, seemed to work temporarily, now

today, here we are back to small ketones on awakening. Moderate, I could live

with, but small isn't enough with 's propensity to have seizures in the

early am.

Also, do you give

his meds in the evening? The benzos have carbs in them. I can't

remember exactly which one is on (I know it's not clonazepam).

Clonazepam has 1g of carbs in each tablet. Have you calculated these into

your evening meals?

- is on nitrazepam, and yes, the carb content (albeit minimal)has been

calculated in.

Don't know what ratio is on, but could a higher

ratio for his last meal keep his ketones up during the night?

-He is still on a 4:1 ratio, and in effect, this is what we were doing (upping

his dinner ratio) by giving the oil in the night. His ketones are very high by

evening, so a higher ratio in the actual meal might send him too high - (like

the MCT with dinner experiment showed).

Running out of ideas here, an actual snack in the night (not just oil) a couple

of months ago had no effect on morn ketones.
