Guest guest
If it starts looking like it's getting infected, he should see his doctor. My doctor told me to come in at any sign of an infection in my foot. Getting it treated quickly is important. Since we're on the subject... I thought that if blood sugars were in control, there was less concern about foot problems. I thought it was only if a person had a long time of uncontrolled diabetes that foot problems arose. I'm really foggy in that area. I still have A LOT to learn myself. :-) Foot injury ? Hi everyone, Lurker here. Actually my hubby is the diabetic. He is really busy so I find myself being the one to gather info for him. Now I know that a foot injury can spell disaster for a diabetic but my husband (yes the same one that expects me took keep him posted about any info I my find out about) doesn`t seem to get that. Anyway, Sunday he was mowing the yard. I`m not sure how he did it but he got his foot under the lawn more. Thank God he had on study shoes. It didn`t cut through the shoe but he received a pretty good whack (no,not the one I gave him when I saw what he had done LOL). Needless to say it is pretty bruised and swollen. He says it doesn`t really hurt. That makes me wonder if he has all of the feeling in his foot. There is no way that can not hurt!! This morning he asked me to look at his foot. He has a tiny puncture wound that now has an ominous looking blister on it now. I am really concerned about this. I was hoping if anyone has any info I can show him or words of wisdom that they could share it with us. My hubby is a great guy. He is a workaholic which isn`t necessarily bad if you like what you do. I feel like he is really in denial about his health. He is 50 years old. He take Avandia and Glucophage. Maybe I just need a pep talk. I can`t tell you the fear I felt in my heart when I saw that fester looking toe. Sorry for the novel. Thanks for any help or info, Donna(wife of hardheaded man). Guest guest
Thanks for responding,. I don`t know about that either(less chance of infection if sugars are under control). That would make sense, though. He was keeping a pretty good record of his sugars and then he sorta fell off the wagon. Hopefully this will be a wakeup call to get back on track. I have no way of knowing what his sugar levels have been. It`s hard to sit by and let him figure out what he needs to do. I want to help not nag or treat him like a little kid. Again, thanks for responding, Donna

Usually I'll wash the area with warm water and tea tree oil. They have healed quickly. Whenever I have a blister, cut, etc I do watch it closely. If it does not heal fairly quickly, I would call my doctor. hugs Eunice
Guest guest
I almost had my foot imputated about a year and a half ago. I am currently working on a foot wound for the last 8 months. It gets better and worse. With that experience listed - have him see a doctor as soon as possible. If nothing else, so the doctor can educate him about foot care. Can he feel pain or pressure? Find a straight pin. Do NOT use it to poke. Use the head of the pin (the flat part) and check several areas and see if he can feel anything. Don't press hard, just a light firm touch. (A paper clip or a toothpick can also work. You just need something firm and small, but NOT sharp.) Try both feet. You can experiment on yourself to see how little pressure you need to feel it. I had fine feeling in the left foot, but no feeling half way up the thigh on the right leg. Donna Wilde wrote: > Hi everyone, Lurker here. Actually my hubby is the diabetic.
