You are, and will be again, suffering from PTSD. Before I found a therapist for long term therapy, I took full advantage of local churches, synagouges, and temples. It didn't matter to me, or them, that it wasn't my religion. I needed a place to ramble and they let me. Our animals are amazing wonderous things. Dewey knew something was very, very wrong and protected you. I love that dog. I know you do too. And I know that Dewey wouldn't mind at all if you hug him close and use his fur to dry your tears.
