Guest guest
Kuddos for you! You did everything right. It's tough to fight the system and very frustrating but you have to keep on until someone finally listens which is what you did. My husband had the symptoms of being tired, back pain, aching hands to the point he couldn't hold his tools. He's an elevator mechanic. I made him an appt with GP who said he couldn't find anything. So then I made an appt with a Rheumatologist because I thought maybe he had arthritis or carpel tunnel. Rheumatologist looked him over, said he didn't have swelling and sent him for blood workup. Results come in and rheum sends my husband for some scans. That afternoon we're sitting in an urologist's office being told he has kidney cancer. That was 18 mths ago. If we had stopped with the GP, he would have died within the year--that's what the urologist said. Unfortunately, my husband's cancer is back. He's only 45! We have three daughters! We found out on 5/12 that he has kidney cancer in his lungs, stage 4, metastasized. He's gone for tons of tests and seen two oncologists and a pulmonary doctor. He starts immunotherapy 6/12. Chemo and radiation do nothing to kidney cancer. We really thought he had dodged a bullet with the accidental find of the kidney cancer in the first place. His symptoms again--body ached, hands hurt, tired. Always listen to your body. If something seems wrong, go to the doctor. I went to the same rheumatologist and said: Now that you saved my husband, can you tell me what's going on with me? Three hours later I was told I have fibro and told to go to my GP because there was nothing he could do. I was diagnosed 2/05. Since 6/05 I've been seeing a doctor that believes fibro is real and has really helped me. Sorry to dump my story on you. He's actually had problems since he was eight but not diagnoseduntil now. He has had several kidney stones so the doctors would just correlate hisback pain to that even when he didn't have any stones. Last August he had a "reoccurrence" so I took him to his Pediatrician. Whosent me to the nephrologists, urologist, gastroenterologist, psychiatrist, who did lots of test which all came up "Normal" . I kept telling them he was lethargic, ran a low grade fever several times aweek, he had severe back pain, and abdominal pain and headaches and NOBODYwas listening to me. So I switched his primary Dr. I took him to a family dr who checked his thyroid and did a "complete"physical and everything was normal. I took him back insisting that heycheck him for strep, hepatitis, Mono everything wrongdiagnosis.com suggestedhe could have. And everything was negative except his urine test does andalways has shown positive for blood and protein. Which again I was toldthis is NORMAL. So I took him to a different dr in the same practice on one of his baddays and he actually accused him of pretending to be in pain so he couldget pain medicine to sell in school. I was so mad!! He hasn't been toschool since August. For a couple of mths I had a teacher coming out to thehouse but they stopped coming because the doctors would n't write excusesfor him because they couldn't find anything wrong. So I ended upwithdrawing him and signing him for an online high school. So at my wits end I took him to new Nephrologists. He listened to me and and did several more tests and said that there was so9mething wrongand he would find out what it was. He thought he might have lupus so he didan ANA test which came up positive, the he did further test which all cameback negative. I did some research on Lupus and it did sound like his symptoms so Idecided to see a Rheumy. So we went to the Rheumy she examines him and says he has Fibro "AClassic case". And I'm like "You THINK he has Fibro? Figuring there wouldbe more tests more waiting etc. and she's like "no, I KNOW he has fibro"So there I had it. He wasn't crazy, I wasn't crazy. He has fibro. I'm just now finding out that instead of being at the end of our journeyit's just the beginning. Thanks for listening!!!Lori __________________________________________________
