Enbrel

Someone once wrote that enbrel made them feel as though they didn't

have RA anymore. Has that been your experience? And did/do you have

any concerns about the possible side effects of the med?

Hi ,

Sorry my reply is so late. Thanks for the encouragement. My derm

actually has me on the MTX, and once I developed the bad chest cold,

he had me stop taking the MTX until I was completely well. I am

taking 6 pills a week currently.

i have read all the side affects, but, i do not want to be all crippled up in a

few years, eight... so i will take the chance.. and the really bad side affects

are not all that common...

i sure hope i fell like i do not have RA anymore...i will do a dance... for

sure.. )

Good luck, on the Enbrel! Sometimes, meds don't work forever, then

you might need to change meds.

I have found, if you right your questions down on paper, it helps so

much. So, when your there, you don't forget anything. Take care, T

Hello a, thank you for your response. Well needless to say I must have read

the info wrong. Over the weekend I did more research which helped me to

understand Enbrel a little more. However, since you have been on it, does it

really make you feel better? I have been told it takes away all the pain,

stiffness, swelling and stops the damage RA does to your joints. I have been

battling RA as well as other ailments for over 5 years now and I hope this will

give me some relief. I am sure you know all about that.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE. I DID MORE RESEARCH INTO ENBREL THIS WEEKEND AND

FOUND OUT A LOT MORE REGARDING THE DRUG.

THIS IS MY FIRST TIME (BELIEVE IT OR NOT) TO EVER GO ON LINE AND TALK WITH

OTHERS ABOUT RA. I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH RA/FIBRO/CTS/ETC, ETC, ETC, FOR 6

A SISTER IN-LAW WHO TOLD ME TO GO ON-LINE YEARS AGO BUT UNFORTUNATELY MY HANDS

I GUESS I DID NOT READ THE INFO CAREFULLY ON ENBREL. YES IT DOES LAST LONGER

THAN 5YRS. I HAVE SUFFERED WITH RA/FIBRO/CTS AND A NUMBER OF OTHER AILMENTS AS

YOU WELL KNOW FOR MANY YEARS. SO STARTING ENBREL IS KIND OF EXCITING AND A BIT

NERVE RACKING. (THE SHOTS) HOWEVER, I GIVE MYSELF SHOTS FOR ALLERGIES SO I

THINK I WILL BE ABLE TO FOR ENBREL. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME WITH A SUPPORT GROUP

Hi T. I am lucky that Enbrel has helped so much. We have many

members that tried it and it did nothing, but we have others that it's

helped a lot. No one can predict who it will work for or for how long

it will work. Enbrel has been good to me, but I've still had

progression of the disease, so it hasn't stopped it. I always know

when it is time to take my enbrel because my joints tell me. I hope

you are as lucky as I am.

ty... i am going to get my 2nd injection tomorrow.. i can hardly wait.. i think

with each injection.. i am going to feel better..

i went to the gym today and got everything set up... i go back on wednesday and

then i can get started..oh i hope i feel even better after the 2nd injection...

RAE, I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU. I AM GLAD YOU ARE EXCITED AND I HOPE TO HAVE THE

I used Enbrel for a year and a half. I don't know if I officially reached

remission but I had very few flares while using it after about 6 months. The

flares I had were very mild. I went off in August because I was concerned

about sideaffects. I am not at my worst right now but flares are much more

severe and I usually have some pain everyday.

My son has been taking Enbrel for 2 1/2 yrs since shortly after turning 4.He

hasn't had any problems with it,nothing major anyway and it was like a magic

potion.

I don't know why your rheumy said it was $3000 a month.The average price for

adults is $1200. takes exactly half that dose and I asked our pharmacy

what it would cost if we didn't have insurance($691).The price seems to vary

from state to state.

Insurance companies are getting better and better about letting patients have

Enbrel so don't give up hope yet.Most likely a call from your rheumy and

medical records will get you approved.

I'm a lot older then your daughter so I doubt this will be comforting but I

have been on Enbrel for 2 years and it has done wonders for me. Luckily my

insurance is pretty good so I only pay $40, I think the med is technically

without insurance like $1500 which is still expensive. The side effects are

minimal a little more risk of infection but so far nothing to bad. I too have

very little fat, but surprisingly I dont bruise that much for each shot.. I hope

someoen has more answers.

My daughter was on Enbrel for a little over 1.5 years. We had problems with

respiratory infections on and off the whole time. She just recently came off

it when we switched docs and found out that her first was overmedicating her

with it.. (somewhere around 7x the dose she needed.) She may well end up

back on it if she flares again.. It was the wonder drug for her too.. it

really helped. My kids have NYS Child Health Plus insurance so it is

totally covered for them.. Next year we will be puting htem on our MVP

insurance and the copay for the enbrel would be 30 dollars a month.. I hope

you can figure out a way to get it.. given right it is a great benefit to

these kids...

Enbrel is not as expensive as your doctor is indicating, but its not

cheap either.

I would check with your insurance company again to see if it will be

covered or what you have to do to appeal it. Your doctor can write

to them stating its a " medical nesecsity " and a lot will cover

things if this is the case. Dont take the 1st answer they give you.

Just ask to go further up the chain of superiors. It doesnt make

sense to me why insurances will deny something that could help keep

your costs down in the long run.

Also check to see if your insurance has a pharmacy plan too... Mine

does and I am able to get 3 months of medications for 2 months co-

pay ( last year it was 3 months for 1 month co pay) I pay $40 for 3

months of enbrel, which because of his dose lasts me even longer.

Enbrel has worked wonders for , hes soo much better since he

started it right before xmas. No complications except for a

injection sight recation that happened for 3-4 weeks and stopped as

quickly as it started ( i just gave benedryl)

Good luck and let us know... its good to get this all straightened

out before you actually need the enbrel. At least you have some time

to work on your insurance people.

Kathe,

Enbrel has co-pay assistance program now for about a year. Did know if you

knew that..but just FYI for future use. They help with any co-pay for

Rheumatoid meds above $50 per month.

I learned about this but had stopped Enbrel....so I am being switched to

Humia when ever I get the nerve up to orther the posion and be the guinnia pig!

Good luck to you Kathe! Enbrel has helped me a lot, even though I am

having

trouble getting used to the 50 mg dose which I just started about a

month

ago. Is that the one you will taking when you start it again? I hope

kathe i know what you mean about high copay. i have to pay 10% for a 3 mos.

supply it relly hurts the old billfold. i'm glad somebody is getting a little

relief from the HIGH COST of these meds. i'm happy for you . mike
