Guest guest Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Hi Christie, Welcome to the group. I had a gastric bypass 3 years ago this month. I lost a little over 150 lbs. But would like to lose 30 more if I can ever get to feeling better so that I can go out and walk again. I have a bunch of other crap going on with me as well as the fms which really bites, but what can you do. How are you doing since the gastric bypass? I had a hell of a time, with my incision and then my ibs got so bad that I could not work for about 6 months. But I still would do it all over again if I had to. I was able to go back to work for awhile, but then the ibs got so bad I was asked to leave after being with this company for 18 years. I have not worked since but hope to go back in the work force someday. Christie wrote: 1. Guest guest Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Dear Puuuuufect, Diagnosis is often difficult and time consuming. I have had a lumbar puncture and a MRI w/contrast. I have since learned that the lumbar puncture should be avoided. I did not have problems but the potential is not worth the risk. It is simply an inconclusive test that does not give definite answers. The MRI is usually and mostly without complications, however, it would be advisable to find a doc familiar with alternative medicine,,the less invasive and the less drugs the better. Best wishes, Tom Bayuk Hello Hi, Thank you for letting me share my troubles with you. My son has possible MS. I think he got it from a Hep B vaccine 3 years ago. The doctors want a lumbar puncture as well as another MRI with contrast.I wanted to know if any of you have had thease tests, and if you had bad side effects. I dont trust doctors anymore. He is due for an MRI this week, and I'm very scared of the contrast causing him harm. Please help. I'm so mixed up and I dont want my fear to cause harm to my son. Thank you Quote

Thank you > Most people have no problems with MRI's but when I had one 4 years ago using the contrast dye for the first time I had a serious allergic reaction to the dye. Almost ended up in the hospital due to respiratory distress. I tend to have allergic reactions to chemicals so make sure the techs allow you to be there. The reaction in me happened right away. The normal MRI with out contrast dye never created a problem and I had many prior to this one. Just be careful and be aware the medical staff always puts a bright spin on any procedure. Quote
Guest guest Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 I eould stay away from the lumbar puncture and just get the MRI with and without contrast unless he has kidney damage of any kind if so do MRI without contrast only Subject: Hello To: mscured Date: Tuesday, July 14, 2009, 6:36 PM Hi, Thank you for letting me share my troubles with you. Guest guest Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 I had a lp - never again. That was in 1995 so maybe things have changed but I wouldn't advise such an invasive test. MRI yes, no problem, just noisy but painless and quick. Guest guest Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 I was just diagnosed in June and had 2 lumbar punctures and 4 MRIs w/ contrast at that time. The lumbar puncture can be performed by your doctor if he does them often or request that a radiologist does it in the radiology department and not the emergency room - do not allow a nurse or resident do it.  I was scared to have it done but I felt nothing, it was quick and it was one step closer to an absolute diagnosis.  As for the MRI w/contrast - that was a dye injected into a vein or with a intraveneous. Again felt nothing, no ill affects.  Having seen my MRI with and without contrast, I was glad I did it because I was able to determine how many leisons I had and which were active.  However, you take control and do what you feel is right. These doctors tend to go by the book and forget about the real world. You do have a say in what is done.   > To: mscured@yahoogroups .com > From: erikasplace@ sbcglobal. net >The doctors want a lumbar puncture as well as another MRI with contrast.I wanted to know if any of you have had thease tests, and if you had bad side effects. Guest guest Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 I also ha a LP done about two years ago. After all the testing was complete my nuerologist office never even looked at the results. they claimed it was unnecessary since I had already been diagnosed with MS. So whty the hell did they order the LP in the first place? Nuerologist in my opinion are very strange people, who seem so removed from their patients with MS. I'm very cautious about anything thay suggest since that experiance. I've also had several MRI with contrast of my brain and spinal cord. I haven't had any adverse effects from it. I did have a CT scan with contrast done and it made me very nausious. Didn't last longer than a few mins so I think their safe. Good Luck -M > > > I had a lp - never again. Guest guest Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 MRIs are great for diagnosing but Neuros don't use them to aid treatment. Too little is known about lesions. Quote
