Trish,

I too suffer from RLS. I have been diagnosed anemic for a lot of years now

and cannot seem to keep my iron levels in the normal range. Just this

evening I went to see my doctor and she wants me to have the iron shots

again. She actually said they want to do it in an IV. That does not sound

like much fun. Fortunately they could not find everything they needed so

they will call me to let me know when. I take Trazedone nightly to help

with the RLS. Otherwise I cannot sleep a wink. I used to sit in the

bathtub everynight before going to bed. Then my husband bought me a Hot

Tub. Boy did I love sitting in there every night. I had to sell it when

money got tight. BOO HOO. Anyways, if you can get your iron under control

it should help.

Take Care.

I have had similar episodes except mine feel like Gallbladder attacks again.

The thing is I don't have my Gallbladder anymore. The doctors do not have a

clue what causes them. I have to lay down for about 15 minutes to wait for

them to pass. When I get one that is really bad I usually end up in the ER

doing my usual Hyperventilating from the pain. I hate that. Everybody

yells at you to take deep breaths. I would if it didn't hurt. Duh. Let me

know if you figure anything out on this.

Barbara,

I have had it happen on anything as well and I have associated it

with over filling my pouch . . . . So I get it if I eat an incompatible food,

OR too much of ANY food . . . I hope this helps you?

Hi Barbra...

Well, I do get the racing heart from too much spaghetti or anything carb

loaded like that. I had some MORON serve me sweetened tea which I

didn't taste before putting my Equal in it...drank a good part of it

before I noticed I was heading for the floor.<G> Even a popsicle that

is a bit above the sugar content than I'm used to on an empty pouch will

get things started. If I have butter in some food preparations I get a

combo of palps and stomach pains. It's apparent that NOW I have a

tendency to fall asunder if I consume too much milk (put your hand down

...I know, " you told me so!!! " <G>) and as of my last experience

with a bowl of Raisin Nut Bran with 2% milk after a bit of ice cream

that was yelling at me from the freezer...I'm STILL, almost a week later

having some pains and conniptions from my tender innards.

Me: " Doc..it hurts when I eat that. "

Doc: " Well, don't eat that. "

Simple enough!<G>

Some of spasm pains that happen on occasion have little rhyme nor

reason, but I do feel that they're related to milk products in some

fashion. But when those spasms happen...I'm incapacitated for at least

10 minutes of lying on my back, side, anywhere just in agony. I've got

a tab of Nitro-Glycerin to try the next time it happens just to see the

results. But.after this length of time, I'm getting assured that my

problem will be milk products and the reaction it causes...which is a

spasm that just is hard to describe.

Anyhow...when it does happen, I just roll my eyes and have a

conversation with the Pain Gawd as to what I promise never to do again

if they'll let me be.<G>

Hi Dan,

::::giggles::::: I shouldn't be laughing, because only *I* really know how

bad it is. :-)

When you say spasms... where? That is another one of my problems [and has

been since about one year post]. I get spasms [like swimmer's toes] in my

toes and fingers. Hurts like heck!!! They all go in different directions

and I can't work it out. Occasionally I get the spasm in my calf and that

one is by far the worst!!! Past few months I have a new one. I get this

spasm in my gut. You can actually see it! It looks like the alien is in

there and my gut just rolls up hard to one side. I try and work it out by

twisting and turning. It hurts so much, but is so weird to see that I

usually end up laughing through it. I have been told that the spasms are

caused from the lack of nutrients [which? I haven't a clue] :-) If you are

experiencing anything like this... I have found the cure. It is OTC and

called Legatrim. Do not get the PMs as for some reason they do not work.

I forgot to mention that the only thing that is almost 100% of the time

guaranteed palps is cereal and milk. Not dry cereal alone or milk alone.

Hmmmmm.

It really is a shame with all the WLS being done there isn't one

surgeon/doctor out there with the answers we need.

Well, it's not the norm...more the rarity I think; and it's such a rare

occurence that it's hard to catch it in process. I've thought about

heading over to the local hospital when it starts..but by the time I've

gotten myself together enough, it's on the way out.

I suppose I could volunteer to go through the process AT the hospital,

but you guys would need to take up a collection for flowers and topless

nurses to help...ease the pain.

Hi Vicki,

What, to you is an incompatible food? Is that food ALWAYS incompatible?

Then what? You get the racing heart? If so, what do you at that point? I

never get anything... or I should say I never really overeat. When I am

full there is no way to get any more food in. There is no place for it to

go. <shrug>

This is definitely not something that is in my head. Last summer I was out

on the beach [i live right ON the beach] with my neighbor who happens to be

a doctor. I started to get palps and was going inside. Doc made me stay

there and kept track of my pulse. He was amazed how it just kept rising and

rising and rising while I did nothing, but lay in a beach chair.

Hi Trish,

I was told the leg cramps are low potassium. The Legatrim will DEFINITELY

help! Actually, helps the symptom not the problem. My potassium is almost

always high above the normal range.

THIS is the major problem in my eyes with WLS. " THE DOCTORS DO NOT HAVE A

CLUE WHAT CAUSES....

I wish I had enough money to fly this whole list of members in to the ASBS

meeting and we would crash them by storm. It is not like one of us is

experiencing a weird, unusual symptom that no one can relate to. Each time

a problem is thrown out there on the list we find many share the same. None

of us seem to have the answers [and think about how many docs/surgeons we

each represent]! This, to me, is a major problem.

You're not alone.. I have this too.. but I had it before the surgery too..

it doesn't happen alot, but enough to concern me.. I had a EKG ran and I

have a nice strong healthy heart.. but.. they are going to 'watch me' LOL..

And I can usually ride it out. The symptoms you have sound much worse!

I'm sorry.. please let us know what happens when/if you walk to you doctor!

When you go into the ER do they give you anything for the pain?? because

I've had this same thing happen and I'm so afraid to go into the ER because

I don't have my gallbladder now anymore.. and I feel so weird.. but

sometimes it hurt so freaking bad!!!

Sally,

That is all they do for me is give me something for the pain. Usually they

will put in an IV and give me fluids and pain medicine. They run blood

tests, urine test, and ask lots of questions, and then the pain goes away

and they send me home and tell me to see my doctor. It is the same all the

time. But yes, the pain medication is a true blessing at the time.

Thanks.. maybe I won't be such a 'hospital wuss' next time I'm in pain. I

fight my husband tooth and nail and I'm sitting there whimpering and crying

that I don't wanna go to the hospital because I dont' want them to think I'm

a freak... I guess better to be a medicated not in pain freak though huh?

I'm going back for the 'complete' physical with my sexy doctor (internist)

who originally ok'ed me for my bypass... Maybe I'll bug him to do some

research on these weird attacks.. He's a great young doctor who seems like

he likes to take on challenges.. :)

Thanks a bunch sweets..

I have had these same occurrences, leaving me feeling very lethargic and

Barbra,

All I can say is watch what OR how much you eat . . . . I could die

(not really but it feels like it) on too much! . . .. even just a little too

much! I have learned to avoid too much or the wrong kind of food and then

again . . . there are times I am willing to die for something I really

want!!! But I do understand feeling like you are going to die and then you

wake up and realize its not heaven . . . or HELL for that matter!

The last time I was in the hospital [many moons ago....] my surgeon had no

answers [for a change], so I blocked him from my case and called in the best

gastro, cardio, etc... available. I was put on a heart monitor and given

beta blockers which made it 1000 times worse.

They found nothing.

Hi Vicki,

I never really have too much to eat as there is nowhere for it to go. I

know when I am literally full and then stop. ALWAYS. Sometimes I have one

bite.. it gets stuck and then that's the end of that meal :-)

As for the what I eat... I have watched that for years and it is never the

same thing that sets it off.

It's a confusing one for sure...

Well..... I have the diamond from my ex... But as far as surgery goes we all

agree no one has a clue to what I had done. I am pretty sure the " ring "

from by VBG was removed when I went to an RNY so I would eat more.

DOES EVERYONE ELSE OUT THERE HAVE THE RING??? I asked before but no one

answered :-(

Damn, this iron is killing me. I am waking up about three hours after going

to sleep with the worst heartburn. YUK! Back to the Prilosecs.
