Guest guest Posted October 1, 2000 Report Share Posted October 1, 2000 Here are some common herb-drug interaction compiled by the Mayo Clinic: * Ginkgo biloba-May cause spontaneous and /or excessive bleeding when combined with aspirin, clopidogrel(plavix), dipyridamole (persantine), ticlopodine (ticlid) warfarin(coumadin). * Ginseng- may cause bleeding if combined with warfarin; manic behavijor, headache and trem b=bling with phenelzine (nardil) and monitoring drug response may be difficult with digoxin (lanoxin). *Ephedra- may cause sedation, heart attack, seizure or death when used with decongestants( such as actifed, dristan, sinutab, sudafed) or stimulants( such as caffeine). *Kava- should not be combined with sedatives, sleeping pills, antipsychotics, alcohol, alprazolam (xanax) drugs to treat parkinsons disease or anesthetics. *Echinacea- may alter the effects of anabolic steroids, amiodarone(cordarone), methotrexate(rheumatrex), ketoconazole (nizoral )and cyclosporine(sandimmune). *St. " s wort- may cause sunburn when used with tetracyclines, also may interact with digoxin, oral contraceptives, cyclosporine and possible sertraline(zoloft).
