Thanks for the data on Stevia.. I will look into the one I take, and make

sure it has no hidden form of sugar in it. Did you get yours from the health

food store?

Thanks

Yes but what does that have to do with Stevia?

Stevia is allowed, but I have never heard of Relative Stevia. What is it?

Oh, OK, as far as I know you can have stevia. you might also consider

vegetable glycerin as a sweetener alternative. Those are the only ones I

know of that are relativley safe for us.

Sorry!! Last one for now I promise:

Stevia is ok?? But its sooooooooo sweet? Wont it induce cravings for

sweet things because you're taste buds are then getting some sweetness?

That’s my fear!! I have some but I'm worried - nothing that tastes that

sweet could be good for you, surely! :P

hi ,

some people can have it - I cannot. I don't react to it specifically,

but it makes me crave everything. If you are doubting it - don't do it

until you know more about it.

here is a good website:

That's why I've never bought any but if your cravings are really

bad then it

could help you not to give in and have something really bad for you

I find myself craving sweet things at this time of year due to SAD but so

far I've not succumbed to them.

Hi,

This would not be a good stevia product to use for candida

sufferers. You should use Pure Stevia Extract also called

Stevioside, these do not contain anything but the stevia extract. It

is also much sweeter at about one tenth the amount of sugar you would

use. Lactose feeds Candida.

> Wanted to jump in here late on the stevia discussion. I've come to

realize when we all say just " stevia " , we could be talking about

slight variations as it comes in different forms. I've been using a

producted called Sweet n Natural super stevia extract. It is really

great, and the ratio for it is 1/3 that to regular sugar. But became

concerned when I saw lactose as the primary ingrediant; only has

lactose and stevia. Even though the serving size is 1/3 of a

teaspoon, which has less than 1 carb. I called the company and they

explained that this stevia product is 97% lactose ingrediant in it.

Reason being is because stevia straight is 300 X sugar, adding

lactose gives it that smoother balance. (Stevia straight can be

quite bitter, I think this product tastes great.) I was concerned

becuase my daughter tested positive for dairy sensitvity. But tested

it yesterday with her diet with this being the ONLY possible

infraction at all, and we had a perfect day. So for us it's in.

However the rep at the company did say if someone truely was lactose

intolerant they may not be able to use it. I get this product at our

local health food store, Trader Joe's. Imagine it's all over. But

here's their direct link to either find out where to get it or order

from the web:

Kari,

You might try buying your daughter her own stevia plant. Using the leaves

fresh or dried can be a lot of fun and will teach her the benefits of

medicinal herbs. My son loves to explain about plantain, and stevia to his

friends. For some reason, I have noticed no bitterness when using fresh and

fresh dried stevia.

a discussion came up a few weeks ago about stevia plus (brand). each

pack contains about 1/2 gram of inulin with FOS. Duncan mentioned that

FOS will feed the bad bacteria too. So I switched to pure stevia

powder. The pure stevia powder has a different taste. I got mine from

Whole Foods in the US.

Not sure what you mean about the after taste.

I hope this helps.

My daughter who is extremely sensitive and can not handle ANY sugar right now and has both yeast & bacteria problems, can handle this powdery stevia without a reaction. There were a lot of favorites when it came to peoples preference, but this one was mine. It is mixed in with lactose which yes is a carb, but with serving size of 1/3 teaspoon it has like less than 1 carb. And the lactose mix really helps level out the bitterness. I get it at the local HFS but here's their sight:

This sounds great for me, but my daughter is allergic to dairy.

Wouldn't the lactose cause a problem for her? Also do you have any

favorite recipes? I really like to make lemonaide with stevia. I

also like to use it to sweeten plain yogurt. However, I have never

been able to sucessfully bake anything with it. Have you?

Stevia how safe is it? I am always afraid to start new things, afraid

of a seizure will happen. I would not take aspertame, equal... because

they are toxic....

But very cautious of stevia, but have not found anything bad about it.

I would like to buy it. How do I buy it(powder, liquid) and where do I

buy? How expensive? ANd is there a table of the diffence for usage for

regular sugar and stevia, in case I am going to bake with it??

Thanks

Stevia is very safe. It is natural and never caused problems with any living

thing that took it, according to research and tests.

My daughter is on atkins for seizure control, and i give her stevia as

sweetner. It has not caused her any problems. It is not really that expensive.

You

can buy it as a powder or liquid. It is like 100 times sweeter then sugar,

though, so you have to play around with it to bake with it. To make a pitcher of

kool-aid, i use like a tip of a teaspoon full, and it is sweet!

I only have two objections to stevia. First is the taste. Some people

like it, others have a problem with the aftertaste. I fall into the

latter group. Second is quality. Some samples that have been tested

have heavy metals and pesticide residues making them a poor choice

especially for anyone with seizure activity.

If you like the taste and find a brand that openly shares its

toxicologic testing, then its pretty safe.

I use Stevia and I can attest to the truth of what both and

Mark are saying. Stevia is safe but you have to be careful. I buy KAL

Brand 100 % Stevia in Powder Form. It is basically standardized and

they are very reputable manufacter. Only buy Stevia that says 100%

Stevia. Some have other things added. In fact many of the health food

stores in my area right now are giving away samples of a brand of

Stevia that has other things added. As said 100% stevia

measures about 1 tsp. to one cup for sugar so per serving you only

need an very tiny bit. I do not like the way it tastes in baking when

you only use stevia - but you should try it for yourself and see if

the aftertaste bothers you. For making drinks and sweeten tea and

such it is perfect. For baking I usually use 1/2 stevia and 1/2

something else like Splenda or liquid saccahrin (which is actually

safer than earlier reports lead many of us to believe.

Call me old fashioned, but I like to use regular store bough granulated sugar.

My family has been using it for many many years and they've been doing just

fine. Only the ones who've changed to equal or other types of sugar have been

having problems so I'm sticking to my regular sugar and that's that.

I find that everytime they come out with a different more improved type of sugar

that's supposed to be better for you, turns out to be the worst thing you could

put into your body and eventually is taken off the shelves, but not so with

reguard old fashioned granulated sugar, but this is just my opinion.

that is why I am afraid. We have tried aspertame... and they are

terrible and we get headaches from them.
