I wanted to give you some encouragement on the clomid. I love clomid! I have used it twice to get pg. Both times it worked on my second cycle. Many people report it working best the second or third cycle they use it, but it often works on the first, too. The theory is that it normalizes everything the first cycle so that it can " really work " on the next. It does help with hormones, etc. along with ovulation. I also wanted to let you know that there are a lot of insensitive nurses out there. After my ep the nurse came in the next day and said I needed to walk around with her to help with my healing. As I was getting out of bed she said in reference to the ep, " So, was this a good thing? " To this day I cannot figure out how having an ep and losing a tube can be a good thing. I look young, so she probably thought that I was an unmarried teenager or something, but even if you have an unwanted pg that doesn't mean you mourn less or that losing a tube when you're young isn't awful. No abnormalities, no blockages, etc.... So, from my experience, the HSG can give you useful information, but it also doesn't tell you everything. The reason I say that is because after the HSG, I had 3 more losses. Two of those were EP's in my right tube and then another loss that was either a miscarriage or EP that resolved itself. I have also taken Clomid for a total of 6 cycles. I got pregnant while on it once and it turned out to be an EP. Back to the HSG... It hurt like bad cramps... I had a little bit of spotting afterwards, but not much and it only lasted for about a hour or so. Take care and good luck next week! My Dr. prepared us for the fact that we may not get any answers. He said everything may look fine and ep could happen again. So, even though I'm hoping for good news, I realize that doesn't guarentee anything. I'm so sorry for all that you've been through. Guest guest Posted January 12, 2001 Report Share Posted January 12, 2001 , It really wasn't THAT bad. My appt. was at 11AM, so I took 800mg of Advil an hour before. Pam told me about this and I think it did help! They use a specula (sp?) like in a pap smear and insert a catheter. That was a little painful. Then they inject the dye. Most painful, but again, not as bad as I had thought. Mostly like bad cramps. Then they take a series of Xrays. I had to turn to the left and right, which is not so easy with all of the aparatus in you! Afterwards, I layed there alittle bit and then they wanted me to go the bathroom. They took one more picture of my bladder once it was empty. That was it. The whole thing start to finish took about an hour. I was a little crampy after for about 2 hours. Since then, it's weird, but I feel better than I did before I went in. My af this week (my first since the ep and Metho) was really horrible. So, I don't know if the HSG just flushed everything bad right out of me or what! I just feel more normal. Hope this helps! Good luck Tuesday and let me know how it goes. Guest guest Posted January 13, 2001 Report Share Posted January 13, 2001 Elle, My RE said that he would do 50 mg for 1 cycle, if I didn't produce a follie on the left side (my good side) then we would go up the next cycle to 100mg. Now I did produce one, so I don't know if this round of DIUI doesn't work if he'll go up just to increase the targets or not. I know it's typical to go up if you don't get at least 1-2 follies. Guest guest Posted January 13, 2001 Report Share Posted January 13, 2001 Elle, Not a stupid question because I didn't know until my RE explained it so here goes...at ovulation the follicle breaks open and the egg is released the follicle that held the egg is now called the corpus luteum and it is responsible for producing the progesterone and estrogen which helps build up the endometrium or lining of the uterus (which my RE likes to see the lining at no less than 5 mm). It continues to secrete the estrogen/progesterone in anticipation of implantation until about day 28 or more depending on your cycle length. It begins to disintegrate as it is no longer needed, unless you happen to be pg in which case the presence of the baby signals the corpus luteum to remain viable for several more months. After it disintegrates, there is a plunge in progesterone which causes the endometrium disintegrate, and then your start you period. My doctor actually prescribed Anaprox for cramping (1 hr. prior, and 1 afterwards if needed). It sounds like turning around with all that stuff in you would be difficult. My friend Gail will be going with me, she's had 2 HSG's done, each time she became pregnant the following month. She's absolutely convinced it helped her to become pregnant. We had suspected an ep prior to my appointment, when the u/s confirmed it, I was in no shape to go anywhere. Gail rescued me from the doctor's office and took me to the hospital. She stayed for about 4 hours, then had to pick up her kids. She would have stayed longer, but I told her that her kids needed her and it was okay to go.
