RE: Is ADHD related to mito?()

Hi ,

Thanks for writing about your experience with the ADHD

meds and with Mito. I was concerned that the people

" diagnosing " my son were maybe just not used to a

toddler before. Then after observing his behavior

better at home and seeing how he really can't sit

still and does some pretty " off the wall " type of

things, I'm beginning to think that there really could

be something to ADHD. He is such a wonderful little

boy and I love him dearly, but he can be awfully mean

to his sisters and cousins. (if he's this mean at the

age of 3, I can't imagine how much more tormenting

he'll do at the age of 16 etc...) I have caught him

chasing a few of the older girls through the house

with the door knob raised above his head yelling that

he's gonna " get them. " (running with the pointed end

of the knob facing the girls)<--the stem that fits

into the door) Yet sometimes he can be terribly sweet

and I think I am imagining some of his behavior or

over-exagerating it in my mind. That is until he

behaves like that again... His teachers tell me that

he won't sit still in class or in speech therapy. They

are trying to work extra hard with the " listening "

aspect for him but say he's not picking up on it very

well yet. The preschool class he's in is considered

special ed. He's had speech problems since he should

have been able to talk. He didn't say a thing (only

grunting and pointing) until he was 18 months. Then he

finally said Mommy and Daddy. (pronounced it hommy and

haddy until he was almost 3 years old)

Anyway, I suppose I should get going, I've made this

too long already.

Thank you for sharing with me. It does help to know

that there are others out there who have gone through

this with such a young child.

(my Mother always said that " misery loves company. " =

)

Thanks again !

DeeDee:

Just remember that there are other drugs besides Ritalin for ADHD and ADD.

My neighbor, who has a husband and 3 kids on meds because of ADD educated me

a little bit on medicine and what they do. I know there are support groups

out there in cities (at least in Appleton there is) regarding ADD and ADHD.

Good luck with deciding on the medicine and when to give it and doses. As

usual Aske a lot of questions and go with your gut instinct. You want the

best for your child and some times the meds route is the only way to go. But

that is after doing research and finding the right medicine. If you want to

know what meds my neighbors kids are on, just ask.

Hi ,

I'd be very interested in knowing what meds your

neighbor is using for her kids. (ADHD) I've heard some

not so good info about Ritalin and someone shared with

me s couple different types, but that was some time

ago and my memory is pretty lousy. = ) (I'll try to

write it down this time!) = )

If she has tried other meds before the one she's using

now, I'd like to know that too along with what made

her want to change the meds. (if possible) Were there

any side effects that aren't good?

I can't wait to hear back from you. His teacher is

going to talk with me tomorrow about getting him

tested and I'm a little nervous about it. Thanks again

.

Just adding my little bit here too: I have 4 children. Gaby has mito, the

other 3 have ADD. All on Ritalin, and no side effects, apart from lowered

appetite with 1 child.
