ABSOLUTELY, I had a problem with that person posting about the thermajunk

spammer -- I had to report them to AOL. I have gotten more careful since

then, I no longer show my name on the membership lists and post direct if I

think something is really private.

It doesn't worry me. Anybody any where can get your name and number if they

want to. I have nothing to hide. I keep hoping someone will get my name

and have mercy on me and send me a check for my surgery!!!!!!! I AM a very

chubby middle aged woman with scoliosis, sleep apnea, acid reflux, high blood

pressure, one lung is compressed from the severe curvature of the spine,

arthritis, fibromyalgia!!!!! What in God's name would anybody want to bother

with me is beyond me!!!! lol Except that I am gorgeous, so my family says.

Here is a pic. I am the one with the white hair and I don't mean skinny

great grandpa Joe either!!! My husband is bald. I am sitting down since

standing is not exactly one of my better talents. This was taken last

Christmas at 225 lbs. now I am 230 and 5 ft 2 in tall. Lord hep me!!!!!!

Of course all of you know that I am kidding to a certain degree. But really

now, if someone is going to try to find out info you they can and do. So

either get a big dog or a burglar alarm or a body guard!!! Maybe a gun

wouldn't hurt, depending upon your ability to aim. in the hills of

Missouri where the robbers are everywhere

The information presented here is so valuable that as many people that can

have access to it the better. You never know who might discover how they can

overcome the weight problem. We have an obligation to share all this

information for those that may be able to gain a better life for themselves

and their families. Anyway that is my opinion. in Mo

Nothing will stop people who are MEMBERS of the lists from being able to

read the posts to the lists. What it will do is not allow ANYONE who

searches for you by your name or email address ANYWHERE on the 'net (eg.

deja.com) to see not only where you posted (whatv list, etc.) but WHAT you

actually wrote..such as your weight and phone number, etc.

While most folks are very aware not to post private information on public

places like the net-it still happens and for lists such as ours, where we

NEED to be able to speak freely and openly and not worry, it is more

important than anything that we also remain protected so that all the

lurkers will also feel " safe " to post.

Of all places, we need to feel " safe " here, and by making our posts only

for viewing by members of the lists and NOT the general public, we can do

that.

After talking with Dr. Rutledge, he agrees that the archives should be

PRIVATE and not public.

Thanks for your input, but it looks like we're going PRIVATE.

I agree! I know I am NEVER open about my weight, and I have been here... so it

would devastate me if others not on this list found out!

I think it is important to keep in mind that we are here to help others. I

know when I was over 400 pounds, I thought I was the largest person on earth.

Maybe with others knowing our weights and status, etc., they too will know

they are not alone! Keep in mind, what are the odds of you knowing someone

that is reading this ... you are doing something about your weight, MGB! My

only concern is if we decide on set boundaries about topics, at what point

will we be willing to talk to someone that needs help and is feeling very

isolated.

I agree!!!!!! In the first place nobody really cares what your weight is but

you!!!! If they are being nosy or making fun or whatever, they will do that

anyway!!! I weigh 231 lbs now and I look like the goodyear blimp which

anybody with fairly good eyesight can see. Today I went to a new doctor and

I have new hope. She was very understanding and kept all the printed

materials that I had to review. I am going back in 1 month, as she wants a

bone density test, a flex sig test and has changed one of my meds. She is

going to do some research on her own she said and will need some time and

will consult with Dr Mangum my gastro doctor and see what he thinks. So I am

going to be patient and get all the tests she wants and give her a chance to

think this over. Oh, I am 5 ft 1 now she says so I am losing height and blah

blah blah. I feel like driving off a cliff. Not really, but I am exhausted.

Going to a new Doc and starting over from scratch is a lot for me, plus the

birthday party. I am going to bed very very soon. Bye

I am very excited about your new pcp. She sounds like she will be very fair

and rally try to help you out. What about your gastro dr? Have you tried to

educate him? This is a lot of work. I feel that it could be a full time job

but think what the results can be. I have never been to the dr. so much in

my life. I go again Thursday to have some additional tests in regards to my

physical. I am having trouble getting my records to BCBS. My pcp's office

has mailed them once and faxed them twice and they still tell me they have

not received them. I am going to get them Thursday and drive the three hours

and hand deliver them to BCBS.

Well, I am going to keep my fingers crossed for you and I do hope that your

new meds help. Don't get discouraged. When I went to my pcp the first time

her response was to prescribe Xenical. Well, I just kept talking to her and

gave her all the information and kept calling her and telling her how

important this was and she is now very, very supportive. If my insurance

does not approve me, my husband says we will pay for the surgery. He feels

that my health is more important than having money in the bank for

retirement. I feel very lucky to have him and to have found Dr. Rutledge.

Keep your chin up. We are all out here rooting for you and many, many of us

have been through what you are going through and things have a way of turning

out the way they are meant to. Regards,

I totally agree with this. If we are even THINKING about this procedure we

are at least 100 Lbs over ideal weight, so I guess I am of the " who cares "

school. I am 282 and that makes me 140 Lbs over my ideal weight. I am not

proud of it but in the long run, if I do not deal with this issue now it

will haunt me in the end. Besides, I have terminal " reverse anorexia " ! That

is to say I look in the mirror and say " that is not so bad " . Of course when

my pseudotumor is acting up like it is now I FEEL bad. The pseudotumor also

makes me retain fluid and if I take the diuretics I feel dehydrated, and if

I drink enough water (8 8oz glasses) I feel like I am floating around. I am

rambling............my point was , we are all in this TOGETHER , with no

recriminations for baring our perverbial souls! :) Paige

I think with the issue here is that so many of us really pour out what

troubles us....mentally and physically. I have read and felt the pain that

many of you feel. Somebody that hadn't walked in my shoes won't and can't

understand until they are there. I still hear people making comments about

people being overweight...lazy, greedy, no self control, etc. This is a

place where we can go and feel some comfort without being ridiculed. I have

read on other message boards (concerning weight) of mean cruel people making

very insensitive comments about something they probably know nothing about.

I know when I feel like I am not except or being made fun of, I with draw and

keep my feelings to myself. That isn't good or healthy. Then what is the

point of a support group? This is just my opinion.

: I don't think you understand what we're talking about here witht

hte archives. By making them PRIVATE and thus for memebers of the various

MGB lists (as we all are anyway),NOTHING CHANGES FOR US...All it serves to

do is to PROTECT us and any personal sharing we do with each other on the

lists from non-registered and non-listmembers who don't have to join the

lists to be able to read all of our private thoughts and feelings.

It also greatly cuts down on spam as out addresses and identities are NOT

available to the general public.

See?

It will not change anything we are doing currently or have been for

awhile. It will do nothing to affect the content of our posts, except

maybe to encourage those in " the shadows " to emerge as they will feel more

safe and protected.

I'd be happy to try to explain it even further with anyone who may feel

the list would change in anyway once the archives (our past posts) become

available for members only.

If you want to test what I am talking about-regarding your comment about

" what are the odds? " , try going to a random site like deja.com and find

the place where you can search by email address to see what lists a person

is subscribed to and then you can go even further and read all of the

messages they sent. I learned about this a few years ago when people were

discussing " workplace privacy " . I entered my boss's email address and

found out much more than I needed to know about him.

What scared me even more was that he could easily do the same to me.

It's food for thought. (No pun intended ;) LOL!

of that type crapOLA, ya know. lol But again, I have felt nothing but

support and kindness from you all. And then those I have spoke with over the
