I'm so sorry you have that feeling Shirley, I would not be so disappointed. I

would suggest a reevaluation either with your current Dr. or consider getting

another Dr. You might feel better with a cooperative situation between your

Dr. and yourself whoever the Dr. is treating your condition. Treatment would

most likely go better too. Best of luck in whatever arrangement you come to

with your decisions.

Thanks Poncho, I needed that encouragement. I have lost my spunk over the

years of having this disease. Thanks again, Shirley

Thanks Lacey, I feel like a truck ran over me. My body took a shock and I

got so upset that now I am hurting all over. Maybe one day I will be able to

speak my mind to a doctor. I hope so. I sure wouldn't want my daughter to

accept that kind of treatment. Shirley

Thanks , I sure do appreciate the support that I am getting from my

friends in this support group. I am still shaken. I feel as though a truck

ran over me. I must get stronger though. I am so tired of being a jellyfish

with doctors. I thinks I take abuse from them because I am so needy for

their help. When will I learn that they don't help me? I realize that most

of them don't know how to help me but they put on a good act like they can.

I know this he would never gotten by talking to my husband like that. Maybe

some doctor's know they can abuse women. I hope only some women. Thanks

again, , Shirley

My god! What a jerk! Is there anyone you can report him to?

I know how you feel, though. These doctors are supposed to be the

" authority " and we are conditioned to respect them. I think that's why

we have a hard time standing up to them. Next time just grit your teeth

and tell him to go to hell. I don't think I'd want that doctor touching

me, much less operating. What would happen if he was in a bad mood? I

don't think people with bad tempers like that need to have scalpels in

their hands!

oops now i am having problems with that send button....

Your doctor should NEVER let his feelings get in the way of treating

you..not just medically but as a human being. I had a problem communication

with my GI (and i really like him now) so I wrote out ALL of how i felt and

handed it to him and told him that he had to read it before we could go on.

i wrote everything I was feeling about not being heard, how I had been

treated and what i feared. It worked. I dont know if this guy can act

better so you might want to find another doctor...i dont want anyone

working on me that gets upset if his ego feathers get a bit ruffled. I am

going to really pray you get someone that treats you better cause you

deserve better. I am really sorry that you had to go through that.

hugs,

Shirley, I agree..find a new doctor..but only after you have let this one

know exactly HOW you feel..not just for you but for all the suffering

patients that come after you.

hope you feel better soon

As my husband and I remembered back to

the last appointment I had with this doctor he got angry and walked

out of

the room on us and didn't tell us to come back at any time. So

we left the

office thinking our appointment was over. He was angry because

we decided to

go with the doctor in Indiana over him for surgery. He was also

angry

because I told him that I had previously been in his hospital and the

surgeon

tending to me at that time refused to operate on me because he said

that my

pancreas did not have enough scar tissue in it yet to hold the stitches

and

there could be a law suit. He replied to us Well, he works for

me. I hired

him. Then stomped out of the office leaving us thinking well

that's that.

Our time is up. I was told previous to meeting this doctor by

the surgeon

who put in my port in that the other doctors didn't like him and wouldn't

talk to him. A few weeks ago when I told him that I was going

to Indiana and

having stints placed in my small duct he said that he would work with

my

doctor there. He made six calls to the doctor in Indiana and

the Indiana

doctor would not take any of his calls. After I calmed down I

thought about

how he talked to me over the phone and realized that his inflated ego

was

bruised by my going to the doctor in Indiana. He wanted to operate

on me.

By the way the surgery he wanted to do was completely different from

the one

in Indiana. I don't know who's surgery is right for me maybe

none. I do

know that he had no right to talk to me like that. I just wish

I had been

able to control my emotions and let him know that I didn't appreciate

him

talking to me like that. My husband called him and talked with

him about the

tpn and told him that we did not have an appointment that we missed.

He said

well you probably left the office before you picked up your appointment

card.

He told us nothing about another appointment while we were there.

He just

stomped out, angry because his surgeon refused to operate on me.

My husband

went easy on him because he thought we might need him warts and all.

I wish

I had had the courage to tell him to stop abusing me. But I was

shocked and

telling someone off is not my style. It is very hard to do.

Over the years

many, many doctors have talked so ruddily to me when I was trying to

get a

diagnosis for the pain I was in. I am so broken in sprit from

all these

years of abuse from them. I have come to fear them and put them

on a

pedestal. I am so disappointed with myself. Jelly fish

that I am. Shirley

Shirley,

I read this with great surprise. I want to pass on something to you

that my very own GP told me. If a Dr., ANY Dr. gives you a hard time

or takes offense to another Dr seeing you or attending you, then you should

RUN, not walk to the nearest exit. He told me that any Dr who would

be offended by you getting the help you feel you need is not worth your

time or money! I have always remembered this!

By no means should you fear your Dr. nor should you put them on a pedastool.

They are human just like you and put their pants on one leg at a time.

They are there to help you, not to be admired.(although I know a

few who think they should be) Just like your automechnic. If

they don't fix it, they don't get your buisness.

Oh, Shirley. I feel so bad for you. These doctors can be sooo intimidating.

Please don't beat yourself up for not being able to argue back with this doctor.

We've had years of conditioning to treat medical people with respect & almost

reverence; it's hard to learn to have enough self-confidence to stand up to

their arrogance & demand for them to also treat you with respect.

It sounds like you need a different doctor; it eems that no one gets along with

him as either a patient or a collegue. It sounds like he has a major " God

complex " . As for him seeing you in September, what are you supposed to do for

nutrition until then?

I wonder why he asked " who takes care of your health " . I hope you can find a

doctor who will realize that the answer to " who takes care of your health "

includes you, the patient, as well as any medical professionals.

Hope you are feeling better today. Please take care of yourself.

Thanks Becky, I know you are right in what you are telling me. I have

searched my brain so many times over the years trying to figure out why I am

so subservient to doctors. The only thing I could come up with is for most

of my life I have been sick and have always had an illness that I had to go

from doctor to doctor trying to get a diagnosis. They always treated me

terribly. Saying cruel things or rolling their eyes at me. Now my health is

so bad that they can't deny it. I know that if I would only once stand up

and tell them what I think of them I would gain confidence in myself and get

stronger. I just have always needed them desperately to help me. I can

speak up for someone else but not for myself. Thanks again Becky, Shirley PS

I will give you an example Becky. This doctor that was so rude to me is

known to be the best doctor to administer tpn and I get really sick on tpn.

I usually have to stop taking it when I need it because I get so sick. The

first GI doctor who put me on tpn put me on lipids everyday and I was so

sick. I had to stop taking it. I told him that it made me sick and he

shrugged his shoulders and didn't care. The next GI put me on lipids

everyday also and the same thing happened again. So this rude jerk that I am

now going to knows all about tpn and he is supposed to be an expert with it.

So there I go taking abuse from him because I am desperate. I am afraid to

speak up when I need a doctor. Goofy, I know. I need to work on this. It

has been going on too long. Shirley

Hi Shirley, I am so sorry that you had such a rough time with the

doc.You need to file a complaint. My husband and I are on HMO so we have't to

have a primary doc who then is supposed to give us the referrals. My husband

and I have health problems so we are in cotact with the doc's office real

often. We had to change our primary doc about 4 months ago because the doc we

were using would not call in referrals,he said that it was not his place to

do this.Well first of all when a doc signs up with the hmo program they have

some rules that they go by.My husband had called his office about getting a

referral and was told by his staff that they did not have't to do that, wellI

was listening and my husband did not even raise hi voice when he talked to

his staff.A few min. later the doc himself called my husband and he said he

was hollaring, cussing and said that my husband had talked rude to his office

staff and he wasn't going to tolerate this, and for us to find another doc as

he was not putting up with it and my husband told him that we would not be

back.I was so shocked that a doc had talked that way to my husband I

couldn't call him back because I know that I would lose my temper. When my

husband called the insurance to tell them we had changed docters and they

wanted to know why so my husband told them about his behaviour and she said

that she would file a complaint. It was really a blessing in disguise because

2 weks prior to this my son had went to a immediate care for treatment and he

found a wonderful doc.So we go to her now,we are luccky because she is

everything that you would want in a docter and she was just setting up her

practice so it all was a blessing in disguise. Take care Your Friend B.

don't like him. I would listen to that too, and find someone else.

I hope this has helped.

Hugs,

Thanks Robin, Hugs back to you. I am going to have to work really hard to

get up the courage. Shirley

Thanks Jang, I feel better physically from the shock of his treatment to me.

But I am anxious about seeing him again. I say again because he is an expert

on tpn and I always get very sick when on tpn. I feel I need him for that.

I plan to go to him for a couple of weeks while on tpn, keep the bags that

the tpn comes in and if I still feel afraid of him or if he treats me rudely

I will be able to go to someone else with the formula in my hand. I hope

this plan works. I wonder if he treats his colleagues the same way and that

is the reason they will not speak with him. He talks as though he is the god

of medicine and knows more than any doctor. He is so full of himself.

As a rule, the better the doctor, the more of a gentleman or lady. A good

doctor has self-

confidence & is usually respectful of other doctors & patients.

Try not to anticipate a confrontation with this jerk. Prepare what you need

to communicate, but don't get stampeded into an arguement. Sometimes taking

3 deep breaths before you make any reply will help keep you calm. The

slowness may agravate & unsettle the twit, but that's not YOUR problem. Just

remember, the doctor is YOUR employee; you don't have to be concerned with

pleasing him. >>

What good thoughts! I need to print this and keep it in my purse to read to

reinforce my attitude for my next doctor's appointment.
