For a shot of standing stones in Cardiff Castle grounds, with my son on top of one, try http://www.geocities.com/igzone/rock.html I regret letting myself loose on the mails the other night while the worse for drink and may have said the odd thing that was too off-the-wall or oblique to follow. I've been " experimenting " with alcohol -- was drinking everyday for about two weeks. Not what anyone would call heavily, I hope -- five pints British " bitter " on two occasions was maximum. My conclusions are familiar from previous bouts of " experimentation " -- I am better off in terms of 1) avoidance of depressive effect 2) financial considerations when not drinking. Over the last four years I have drunk only very occasionally and then never to the sort of excess I was formerly capable of. Growing older and gaining the benefit of periods of long abstinence (from 1985 -- 87 with AA, latterly, and more effectively, solo) has, I hope and believe, given me a radically different perspective on booze. I felt the urge to have one the last two nights, as a result of the conditioning I'd already allowed myself to build up (complex this, as it includes the social pleasantness for a single man of going to the nearby pub for a couple of hours). The urge was, however, easy to resist, on the strength of the " empirical " data I was sure of. I tried VRT/ Rational Recovery momentarily. This may have been all it needed. It isn't in my " Times Atlas of the World " (concise version) so it can't be very big. Do you know how it came to be called Cardiff -- a Welsh connection, I would imagine. I found a map on Yahoo that shows Cardiff-by- the-Sea but its helps if you already know where it is. Its North of San Diego, Ca and right next door to Encinitas. My folks moved to Encinitas from Iowa in about 1940 and my grandparents to Cardiff sometime later. I have fond memories of the place from visiting as a child (my parents left in 1952), but like most of southern California it has changed a great deal. The weather and the ocean are still wonderful, however.
