We are not on 12 hr shifts. We did have, when permitting, 4 people on 12 hr shifts but we are a dept of 60+ and it was only done when possible. for the minimum staffing requirements they want for us we didnt have the manpower. I think its sorta split 50/50 whether they want 12's or not. I have never worked it, but of course would be willing to try it. Right now we are on 8.15 hr 5 day weeks. Guest guest
Technically we are on 8 hour shifts. But with OT it turns out to be 12 frequently. I wish we could go to 12's my only concern with it would be if someone calls in sick you would get stuck at work 18 hours straight??? Currently we are not allowed to be at work more than 12 hours on any day. And honestly I don't know how many 18 hour days I could handle in row. Maybe 10's would be a nice compromise... I could deal with having 3 days off! I don't see our shifts changing though. I can dream!
Guest guest
Dispatchers all shifts work 8 hr shifts. Comm officers dayshift work 8hr shifts. Comm officers swing and graveyard work 10 hr shifts. All shifts days off rotate every 28 days. Guest guest
We work 8 hour shifts on the early shift (0700-1500) and late shift (2300-0700) with a 10 hr mid shift (1400-0000). This gives us an hour on either end to prep the next shift, finish paperwork, updating calls for officers, etc. And it give us extra people in the center during the busy shift change (our officers change at 1400 and 2200.) We just got shift supervisors in March, and bid for shifts then. We will se ehow they are going and possibly bid again in January. The idea is a 1 yr bidding process (which is also what our officers do), but they are looking into 3 or 6 month bids and/or rotation processes...who knows what will happen....Plus our mayor is not running for reelection, and we just got almost all new alrderman, so anything could happen come November! Guest guest
In Chicago we use a combo of 8 and 10 hour shifts.
