Deb, my gallbladder was removed this summer. My pain in mostly in the RUQ (right upper quad), just under the ribs, right where the liver is. Sometimes its on the right too.

I'm told 'PSC is painless'. Also thought about bacterial cholangitis but I've been on Abx (antibiotics) the whole time. I might think about trying some different Abx coverage after I get a 'curb-side' infectious disease consult. I'm also concerned about intra-hepatic stones but they should have seen them on ERCP. My GI doc is concerned re: duodenal stricture or something obscure. Had joint pain (arthalgias) for years but never this bad.

I can deal with the pain for now (its less than it was) but I am a bit worried with an Alk Phos of 220!-Stef

Hi all,

Actually my GI (when I was first diagnosed) told me the same thing!! Then I

finallly went to a Hep. who had more experience with PSC and said that pain WAS

normal and the only way to really deal with the pain (if it isn't an official

cholangitis attack of course) is to take painkillers, use heating pads, etc. I

was glad to hear pain was normal because I thought I was going crazy.

Nice - all the top GI docs think its painless, but all the patients

think its painful. Boy that really pisses me off - almost as much as

when medical students mix up IBS and IBD! Esp. since they teach us

in med school " When in doubt, listen to the patient " type stuff.

Time for another poll I guess. . . .
