Guest guest
We have 5 channels and each one has its own responsibility. Records, wants, DL info, etc is done on a separate channel as is car to car., etc. The officers do not normally tell us when they go to another channel since the majority of them scan all the channels and you can monitor all the channels form each position. Guest guest
In NYC we use one of the citywide channels. These channels are also used for large details, and other special ops If a unit comes up and it is being used for something else, they are advised which channel to use. Units do not notify central about the switch. Please note, over-the-air checks are done only when a unit does not have an MDT. We have a separate channel for anything using NCIC and DL checks and such. We also have another separate channel for local records. (A different department handles that.) Usually they tell us when they switch, unless they are in the car and can have one radio on the main channel and one on the records or tty channel. I don't know if they are required to tell us or not, but they usually do. That way we won't freak out when we can't reach them on the radio while they're on a traffic stop. _________________________________________________________________ Stay informed on Election 2004 and the race to Super Tuesday. http://special.msn.com/msn/election2004.armx

It works quite well, except you tend to get slammed on Friday and Saturday nights since you have the whole county wanting to run everyone. Units normally tell their primary channel when they go to the admin channel. Hope that helps ... Mike -- miked911@...
