Guest guest
I went to see the surgeons for my liver transplant yesterday. This junior student doctor came in, as there's a team of them, so I never get the same one twice. He informed me that they were going to take me off all pain pills because I was having problems with my kidneys. When I questioned him as to why the opiates and not any of the other 20 drugs I'm taking he told me that the morphine was optional and the others weren't and so they were going to do that first. After I picked myself up off the floor, I started laughing and told him what a bad idea I thought it was. So then he said, well, we'll taper you off. I said I didn't think it was a good idea and I was pretty sure it wasn't the opiates since I'd been taking them for several years without any indications that they were a problem. Well, then he left the room and came back with one of the senior surgeons to help sell me on this. Senior took one look at the info, asked a bunch of questions and said, " well let's reduce your antirejection medication. It's the one that's doing it. " When I got home, I looked at my test results and the number he is so concerned about is dropping, not rising, anyway. I plan to take the graph of that info with me next time. God save me from students. I was really sweating. They are sending me to a pain clinic but I've been expecting that since they are releasing me back to my primary care for a bunch of stuff like blood pressure, etc, and she has been wanting me to go to one for quite sometime anyway. Anyone have experience with Oregon Health Sciences University Pain Clinic or can recommend another in Portland, Oregon? Please contact me off list. carolyn@... Also, any information about dealing with pain clinics in general would be appreciated.
