Guest guest
Hi Deb; I've only heard about citrus causing increased itching in the anal area ... pruritus ani .... this is described in the PBCers page devoted to itching: http://www.pbcers.org/itching.htm The following page also indicates that citrus fruits, grapes and tomatoes can cause pruritus ani: http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/23068810/ I'll be interested to hear what others have to say. Best regards, Dave (father of (19); PSC 07/03; UC 08/03)
Guest guest
, Interesting read for sure! I get itching EVERYwhere, but not in that particular area to any large degree - thank goodness! My favorite line from the first site you list is: " Avoid scratching or rubbing the itchy areas. Keep fingernails short to avoid skin damage from any unconscious scratching. " As if one has a choice as to whether or not to scratch when presented with this type of itching! As much as I love these foods, especially tomatoes, I suppose just cutting them out of my diet is easiest. I just hate having to do this since I'm already fighting multiple vitamin deficiencies. C'est la vie. Thanks for your guidance! Deb in VA AIH 1997, PSC 1998, UC 1999, Listed Ltx 2001, MELD
Guest guest
, I eat grapes and citrus and it does seem to matter to my itchiness. You can bet that if it did I would change my diet. Guest guest
Deb, I have to be careful of my fat intake, but I've never had problems with citrus before. As Rob mentioned, I've just taken to cutting out the things that aggravate the itching. It sucks when everyone around you is eating prime rib and you're eating tuna, but it beats the alternative. ;-) Bill Wise (36) PSC '
