Guest guest
, Our dealings with Garland and shots have been this simple: if he had a cold it would wait, he only received two shots at one time and only piggy backed on one shot. He never had an issue with this. This worked for us. > Just a quick question about one year old vaccines. was due to recieve his MMR and Chicken Pox (first ones) but he's been coming down with a cold. The last cold ended us up in the ER and on O2 for a few days, so we decided to delay the shots since they are active strain vaccines. I know very few people are going to say " Don't vaccinate " , but since autoimmune stuff can be a part of CHARGE, has anyone handled vaccines on a different schedule? Anything to avoid? So far he's done fine with shots, but I was nervous about these since they are active and he was already ill. > > > (1 year old! Guest guest
My son had a regression at about 2.5 years that is similar to autism. He was delayed before but was progressing...now it appears that he may function as an infant the rest of his life. I have done a fair amount of reading about vaccines since they are one of the leading suspects in causing autism. Thimerisol (mercury) is in some vaccines as a preservative. There is evidence that it may cause autism. The manufacturers were supposed to remove it for the childhood immunizations, but I would double check before you give a shot. It is still used as a preservative in other immunizations like the flu vaccine. (Much smaller amounts of thimerisol are still used in the manufacturing process...so small that I wouldn't be concerned about that.) I agree with the other posts that it is a good idea to spread out the vaccines...just give one at a time so the body can deal with it. Dr. Wakefield's research shows a link between autism and the measles vaccine (which is part of the MMR vaccine--Measles/Mumps/Rubella). Other doctors dispute this--in fact, they are quite hostile and defensive about it. After Danny's regression, we did not give him the second MMR vaccine. Most healthy kids can tolerate the regular schedule for vaccines without problems. I believe that some sick kids like our CHARGEr Danny have trouble processing the vaccines and can have problems. Maybe the MMR is OK for healthy kids, but if you suspect your kid has immunological problems, I would think about it. There is a blood test called " titers " in which you can see if your kid already has immunities for various diseases. Ask your doctor to order them, then decide what vaccines your child needs, if any. I am convinced that the vaccine manufacturers are evil. They put a known toxin, mercury, in vaccines to allow multi-dose vials, just to save a few cents in packaging costs. Most doctors go along with the recommended schedule and try to guilt-trip you into thinking that is best for your kids. Other industrialized countries in Europe require fewer vaccines. Because the consequences are so severe, you need to look into this for your child. Guest guest
Hi there, at the risk of causing a stir, I just want to comment about the vaccines from another point of view: For about 30 years now I have worked with Deafblind people in a variety of capacities. When I first started my work (most of it at the Perkins School for the Blind, but also at the Callier Center for Communication Disorders in Texas, the Dev. Disabilities Center at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hosp. in NY, and a consulting agency in NH) 99% of the people I worked with were deafblind, multihandicapped as a result of Congenital Rubella Syndrome. All of the children were born to mothers who had been exposed to German Measles (Rubella) during their pregnancies. These mothers got Rubella during the first weeks/months of their pregnancies which saw their developing fetuses infected and severely affected by this dangerous virus. (Rubella is a mild illness for most people but for a pregnant woman the virus, which passes through the blood stream to every developing organ in the fetus, it can be a devastating illness.) The bulk of these children were born during and from the Rubella epidemic of the early 60's; approx. 30,000 children born. Many did not survive because of the heart conditions they faced. The remaining children suffered (and continue to in many cases) a myriad of issues which continue to impact their lives (most are turning 40 this year.). In addition to their deafness and blindness, they have medical conditions, behavior conditions, neurological involvement, and many have mental retardation. In the later part of the 60's, the vaccine became available and the impact on pregnant women was dramatically reduced. However, Rubella still exists and affects small numbers of pregnant women--mostly new immigrants and in developing countries. While I have followed the vaccine studies and research religiously (Rubella remains my first passion but CHARGE has now surfaced in much the same way Rubella did-- a huge bulge of children with many complications) given the debates over mercury and the suspected autism connection. Each camp has its research to say, " Yes, it causes autism " ; " No, it doesn't cause autism " and far be it for me to tell you what to do. What I do want to say is, think it through because should your child get Rubella or exposure to Rubella and passes it on to some unsuspecting pregnant woman the consequences could be dire for her child. This is not to discount YOUR child; I just think people need to know the whole story. Thanks for listening. pam
Guest guest
Having worked also with the population of Rubella since the early 80's I would have never second guessed vaccination for anyone. Until I met parents of those who were medically reported as " vaccine damaged " children. I had never known there were potential side effects. And then I had my own children, and began a journey to find out more. All my local health dep't would give me was positive information, and when I asked about potential side effects they had NO material on what I had heard being reported firsthand, (despite the fact I later learned some warnings are written right on the vaccine labels by the manufacturer!) My own children have an extended family history of food allergies--and clearly there are potential effects just with that (egg alubum and MSG often a preservative)...SO despite working with those with Rubella, I waited on vaccination for my own children. It turns out my son was later found to have severe egg allergy. Phew.... I joined a local vaccine risk awareness network, and was privy to documents most individuals never get to see. Besides the MMR being together in one shot, the thermosal issue itself is another " smoking gun " altogether. One thing that has NEVER been in doubt is that thermosal is a neurotoxin. In the early '50's there are CDC reports done by themselves that warns of potential dangers of thermosal. AND YET THEY ALLOWED IT TO CONTINUE! For years later many of the doctors involved in the studies were actually paid by the vaccine manufacture. CDC have admitted that the recommended dose of vaccine for children over the first two years of life would contain more methol mercury exposure then was recommended as safe exposure by the CDC themselves IN A LIFETIME!!! That is why they now encourage vaccine manufacturers to make thermosal free vaccine. Vaccine culture is often grown on non-human tissue, and reported in some samples in studies to contain unknown genetic material. Those studies will be rare, as researchers are not encouraged to enter into this controveral domain. Pat Rittgasser reported her family doctor found that because those with CHARGE have some problems with efficient elimination due to kidney involvement, there is potential that they cannot as easily eliminate toxins from their body (toxins such as contained in vaccine as well from other sources). They had done extensive hair and urine analysis of their child with CHARGE finding many toxic elements. Any decision should come with extensive reading, not only reports from health dep't or doctors, but the references from reports, parent self-reports, making sure that information has been obtained on both sides of the issue. Guest guest
Ann, I agree with you totally, but just wanted to add the other side of not vaccinating. Risks are huge for the medically fragile child so each parent must decide what is best for their child. I just wanted to comment that the risks for others is also great if someone is in a fragile state (in this case, early pregnancy). pam > * > >
