An MRCP is the same as an MRI except they hook you up to an IV for clearer pictures. I go by myself. I do take a valium about a 1/2 hour before just because I don't like to be in confined areas.

Hope this helps,

Doris

Hi, Could you refresh my memory on what an MRCP is? Dr Kaplan

wants 1 done this month & 's never had it. Do I need to go with

him? I've missed lots of work for my own procedures lately. Thanks.

Please know I read daily, think of & pray for you all. Just not up

to posting. Take care. Kath

Hi, Kath

I just had another MRCP last month. If you don't like confined spaces, I guess

it could be a problem. They ask you before you go in if you're claustrophobic.

As Doris said, you have an IV. I was given headphones to dull the noise and so

I could hear their repetitious instructions ... " hold your breath " " let it

out " . I thought I was being smart and I went into a meditative state so I could

relax. When I came out they told me they had a hard time because I was

breathing too shallowly. Guess it wasn't such a good idea after all. An MRCP

is a piece of cake compared to an ERCP.

Hello Kath;

A good article comparing MRCP (magnetic resonance

cholangiopancreatography) with ERCP (endoscopic retrograde

cholangiopancreatography) is as follows:

Health Technology Assessment 2004; Vol 8: number 10

A systematic review and economic evaluation of magnetic resonance

cholangiopancreatography compared with diagnostic endoscopic

retrograde cholangiopancreatography.
