Hi

My son had his removed last November...He had his in for 6 years...the

doctors put him under anesthesia removed the tube and used steri strips to seal

the wound....no stitching involved...in 7 days it was completely closed and

...a year later the scar is small and flat...we use mederma on the scar. The

only down side to the surgery was when he came out of anesthesia he was sick to

his stomach and the nurses used 2 different medicines to soothe the nausea...

Good luck

Congratulations! We kept Bryce's g-tube for a year or so after he was

completely oral because he needed so many anti-histamines in the middle of the

night.

I joked with the pediatrician that every child should have such an easy med

port.

We were given the option of haveing it surgically removed or waiting to see

if it would close on it's own. But the surgeon thought because it had been

there so long, it would likely get infected before closing up. So we opted for

surgery which was as surgeries go, no big deal at all. If I remember right, it

took about an hour and it was out-patient. He recovered quickly. He does have

quite a scar though.
