Guest guest
I understand the concept of milestones. However, I remember an (idiot) mother of a deaf child (also an evaluator for the school district) telling me that if didn't play catch by X age, she had a substantial cognitive problem. Ugh. Perhaps some of our kids need to learn to write, read, etc. differently than most. Milestones are not actually written in stone. In 1993, we had a Boston College grad student live with us for a summer. One day, Liz, , and I were in the food court of a mall. Without telling me what she was doing, Liz wrote various words on napkins (Mama, Daddy, cookie, friend, etc.). spontaneously signed everything. But (!) when Liz moved to real " testing, " looked off into space and stopped. Milestones are relative and for the norm. Martha

Guest guest
Michele: Oh, I love it! I wonder how many of us could come up with such tales. used to write even in her dreadful school situation prior to Perkins. This was brought up at a hearing. Her (well medicated) teacher was asked about the writing and said that well, yes, had written that she wanted to go to the park but other primates did the same thing by chance. This was so wierd even at the time that I had to smile and not explode! Martha
