Anyway, no, MacKenzie doesn't have an Intervenor. I think there's only a handful of them in this province and they are delegated to people much more disabled than Mac. We do have a wonderful teacher assistant. She's actually a good friend that has cared for Mac since birth. She's taken sign classes with us and goes to most of our medical appointments. She used to run a nursery school and also did work with early intervention. She has a good grasp of CHARGE Syndrome and is willing to learn anything. With that said, she's not learning sign any faster than I am and in no way will be able to give Mac the type of language she needs in a few years. Our school board doesn't actually know that I'm looking for a language facilitator, I just found out myself that this is an option. APSEA, or Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority are the ones giving me a hard time. They sent out the deaf itinerent teachers/ vision itinerents, and then make recommendations to the schools. I believe they also fund interpreters or language support workers. I really feel that they are just looking at MacKenzie as a Cochlear Implant kid with a few other problems, that will probably catch up or do okay eventually. I find the whole cranial nerve/ processing/ oral motor stuff overwhelming, but my heart tells me that MacKenzie is much more complicated than they want to admit. I think the fact that she's so " normal " actually goes against her in this way. She's so obviously smart and social and capable that her multi-needs aren't obvious to many people. Anyway, that's just an update. If you have any more suggestions, literature , etc., I'm all ears.
