Guest guest
Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you know that I will be cutting back on my viewing of my groups for a while. The reason being is that I plan on adopting a puppy or young dog in the next couple of days and want to spend its' awake time getting her familiar with the surroundings and the rules...such as leaving the cat alone-the cat is way off bounds for any dog...the cat is 12 years old and just not of the age to play with a puppy...much less learn to play/tolerate a puppy. This dog is going to be my christmas/birthday gift to myself...The local shelter has a couple of puppies and a couple of young dogs that I am going to go look at and hopefully adopt one. My first choice is a one year old...In theory she will be past the potty training period and will house train in a day or two...the others are puppies, 8 weeks old, and they will require a lot more time in the house training department. (And being puppies I suspect that they will be adopted very quickly, as it is Christmas time.) For me, this is a way of getting me out of the house and walking again...I miss this activity. I have found that without a reason, I just workout at home and don't venture out onto the paths that are in this area. So I will be going into lerking mode,... just not as active as in the past. Guest guest
Gossimer – Sorry to hear you won’t be on with us as much – I know you have helped me a bunch (even when it was others who asked the question) so I am sure we will all feel your absence around here. But congrats on the new addition to your family! I am such a dog person and good for you for saving one (one of MY pet topics, no pun intended!). Just in my experience, if you do get an older than puppy dog, if it is deemed “cat safe” by a shelter or rescue group, it will likely leave the cat alone. I had a 15 year old cat and I think it took 2 years before my adopted dog even figured out there was a cat in the house. Just didn’t care. Oh, one other thing in case you didn’t know or no one told you – get a covered litter box if you use one – most dogs consider the cat box a treat --- ewwww. Keep us posted and don’t go away completely!! Guest guest
Hi Gossimer, That sounds so great to be having a new baby in the house, I know that you are going to have lots of fun with it. I will miss you terribly and I want to thank you for all the wisdom that you have shared so willingly to help each one of us. Just take care taking it out for walks as the snow flies, which it is doing as I type, yuk! I will look forward to when you will be able to share with us more again, and I hope you know that we all love you. Have a wonderful birthday, Christmas and a fantastic New Year until we hear from you again.
