Guest guest
Gallaudet student is bound for Bosnia Gallaudet senior us Khouri has been chosen to attend this year's Youth, Development and Peace Conference, taking place Sept. 5-7, 2004, in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. According to organizers, the conference brings together youth from 150 nations " to discuss how youth organizations and the World Bank could best work together for poverty eradication and promoting development at all levels: advocacy, knowledge and operations. " A native of Jordan, Khouri sees this conference as a unique learning experience. " Instead of saying what I know about the world around me, I'm going to listen to other people's experiences and opinions because we share the same goals, " he said. " There are other people with disabilities that are going there as well, and they hold the same goal: to create a change in the social standards that people with disabilities face in developing countries today. " Khouri, who currently majors in international relations, credits Gallaudet for instilling in him the drive to affect change. He specifically thanks students Staci Paisley and Adamo, and staffer Amy , for their help in preparing for the conference. " Now that I have the privilege of attending this university, I have dedicated myself to working and contributing to the worldwide awareness of the unique needs and potential of disabled individuals in the developing world, " he said. " After I graduate, I would like to start to work for an organization that does this kind of work. I have worked in orphanages and handicap centers for children and just being there, you really want to help these people. I know they have as much potential as any other person.
