Guest guest
Hi Melvin, I think this is a good idea, to post such a list to the blind-diabetics list. I myself have spoken with pump companies (Minimed, s Medical, and Accu-Chek), and they are all well aware that the pumps are not accessible, but their answer is always that there is no demand and that the few blind people who are using pumps seem to be managing fine by counting button presses. I think if they began getting e-mails from interested blind or low vision people, they may see that there is a demand out there. So many blind people just don't' go on pumps because of accessibility issues. I am trying to put together an abstract to present to an international diabetes conference about the need for accessible diabetes technology. Hopefully it will be accepted. If it is, I think it will be awesome to call up some of the pump reps and ask them to set a temporary basal rate on their own pumps blindfolded and see who can actually do it! I'll try to put a list together of contacts for each company and post it to list. Most companies also have local reps for each area so you might be bounced to them. Jen insulin pumps Could we compile a list of e-mails that we could e-mail the pump companies. If we posted a list of them here with the contacts we would could make an unified effort. This way the same person would get all the e-mails instead of just whoever opened them. Melvin (Mel) Nature delights in diversity, why don't humans. Have a blessed day.
