stainless steel often has nickel in it - nickel is bad bad bad! I just had a

stainless steel rod (with nickel alloy) removed from my back - it is bad news.

Get the stainless steel (which is really nickel) out of his mouth. God bless,

[ ] dental work and terrible mouth sores

Has anyone had any experience with stainless steel caps causing

tongue irritation or canker sores? After my ons's most recent dental

work three days later he began with what is either tongue sores or

canker sores that he is now biting out of shear frustration and

repeating the cycle. None of the dr. I have delt with know what to

do except medicate. They like he is just selfabusive because he is

autistic! help.

One more thing about stainless steel....if in fact it all contains nickel ( I

believe it does) you should be aware that nickel is a carcinogen.

My son has had stainless steel in his mouth for three years now,

with no ill effects

Did your son have any of these crowns befor this new work? the

reason my son had 2 teeth pulled and the 4 crown in the frist place

is from his yeast overgrowth. We treated the yeast and he has not

had any other problem with his teath in 3 years. Please call your

son dentist and ask him what he thinks.. be sure to talk to him.

, Don't know how much help I can be but I take lysine daily 500-

1000 mg to control mouth sores. I rarely have them now and used to

have them often. Maybe that will help. Another thing my mom always

did for canker sores was to take a peice of ALUM rock crystal and

hold it to the sore for about 30 seconds. This dried them and they

went away quickly. I can't imagine where you would buy this but I

still have a few crystals in my medicine cabinet. I suppose this

would put a bit of Aluminum in the system. I hate having a mouth

sore because it swells and then you bite it by accident because it

is swollen and it is a viscious cycle. Hope he feels better soon.

Is 25 years professional experience enough?

Based on the limited info posted I would consider the following as valid

reasons...and your dentist certainly should have told you this. If he

knew your son was autistic, he should have taken additional precautions

and advised you more thoroughly prior to even starting the procedure.

1--during anesthesia and placement of the SSC his tongue could have

a. been cut with either the handpiece bur, by a sharp edges on

the SSC while it was being fitted

b.been traumatized by an unskilled dental assistant

2--he could have bit his tongue after the visit but before the

anesthesia wore off, which could be several hours after the appointment.

3--it could be a reaction to:

a the anesthesia depending on where the needle was placed

b. to the medications used during the procedure

c. to the cement used during the placement of the crown

4--it could have been by just plain carlessness by the dentist

a. he may not have protected the tongue by isolating it during

the procedure

b. frequently they have the patient bite down to seat the SSC

and without proper technique it could have been traumatized then

None of the dr. I have delt with know what to

do except medicate.

Where did they get their education?

Medication is not the answer for everything

You may:

have your son rinse frequently with warm salt water solution

coat the sore area with Manuka Honey UMF-10, several times a day

avoid traditional toothpastes

avoid trauma from the toothbrush

avoid foods which will irritate the area

like citrus fruits and tomatoes

bread, crackers, or any abrasive foods

particularly foods your son must chew.

have him rinse with a vitamin C solution,

this may sting a little but will help

have him rinse with Ozonated water 10 times a day

They like he is just selfabusive because he is

autistic!

I think you may be going to an " abusive dentist " who is not honorable

and lacks communication skills, among other things.

Find a new dentist,

and help you son keep his tongue treated with the above, and explain to

him the importance of letting his tongue heal, without chewing on it.

was told by my son DO And since he has had no other tooth decay in

3 years since- I guess my DO was right. Ann
