Sheryl-

Big step!! I look forward to hearing more as gets settled in

and you get used to having her away. I hope she is wildly successful there!

You bring back such memories! I remember bringing to Perkins for

real (not just for the 2 earlier evals). My husband had to leave, but I stayed

for awhile. I didn't know how rough it was to leave until I was at the airport,

and an idiot decided I had to be searched (this was pre-9/11). I said that

would be fine, and he replied, " it will be unless I find something. " Later, i

got a glance at myself in a mirror and realized like I looked as though I'd

been hit in the belly a thousand times. The first time the kid had a cold, I

was ready to take the red eye. But... adjusted and so have we. My

horror now is graduation. How things change! Martha

Martha,

To be honest, I don't know how I would feel having so far

away. I hear wonderful things about Perkins but could not come to

make that choice this year when it was proposed. 2 1/2 hours to ISD

is far enough for me this year. I only had 1 hour of sleep before we

left to take her. I was up all night typing notes to help them

getting to know her. I didn't look in a mirrow when I got home, but

I sure know that I felt like I had been run over by a truck.

My son said he thinks he is doing better than he thought he would do

knowing she was away at school. He didn't get to go with us to take

her. She was at camp for the weekend before going to school. Mitch

had gone up to the camp and spent a couple of hours playing with her

before she left. I thought that was very sweet of him to do on his

only day off.

I wonder how my husband is doing. He drives truck and left this

morning. I don't think it will hit him until he gets back home and

she isn't here. He always goes to play with her as soon as he gets

home. He spends his time with her before he even says anything to

me. She is his little angel!

Oh Sheryl, what a huge day for you. But I understand about the quiet being

different, too. Hugs to all of you...

has started school!

Hi all!

Yesterday was the big day. is now at Iowa School for the Deaf

(ISD). We got her moved into the dorm and while I was visiting with the

different

people, she was already off doing her own thing. She has a 1:1 for the

school day as well as 1:1 in the dorm. I think things will go just fine

once

they all get to know her and she gets to know them.

My husband had a hard time when she started to whimper as we arrived on

campus. On the way home, he said she was acting better by the time we

left so he

felt better about leaving her there.

With the 5 weeks she spent at camps this summer, I thought I had gotten

used

to the quiet. For some reason the quiet today seems so different.
