I'm not familiar with that probiotic. You want one that is just acidophilus

only. If there are other bacterial strains in this one, Elaine would recommend

against it.

In terms of other illegals, you can check the list of illegal supplement

additives that's on pecanbread.com (click " supplements " ). Then, just ask the

company to tell you what else is in their probiotic besides acidophilus....any

fillers, etc. Tell them you need to know EVERY single ingredient that's been

added.

If there are no illegals, and it's just acidophilus alone, then it's technically

SCD legal. Most of the families on this list that are using the Custom

Probiotics acidophilus are doing so because they are wanting to avoid a dairy

base..... but if milk/casein is not an issue, you can use any brand of

acidophilus that has no added illegals.

Patti,

Thank you for the response. I found out about this product from

reading the book Patient Heal thyself. The author of this book

suggests a diet called The Makers Diet which included this goat

yogurt, grass-fed beef and cultured veggies for treating chronic

health issues. Probiogurt is a 30 hour fermented goat yogurt with

added culture and no added fillers from White Egret Farm in Austin.

Many diets have similarities similar to some things on SCD. But they are not SCD

and can confuse a person just starting out.

Several have commented on The Makers Diet which again prompts me to pose

a pleasant reminder from our list guidelines:

" Discussions and advertising of alternative diets, illegal foods, treatments

that are not recommended, or other subjects that are not part of the science and

practices of SCD "

Please trust the 50 year history of SCD and its precepts.

I am sorry. I was not promoting another diet but simply trying to

give further info on probiogurt so I could get an answer to my

original question which is.. Is the probiogurt yogurt from White

Egret Farms legal? It sounds the same as the homemade yogurt from

SCD. It is fermented for 30 hours and the goats milk is grass-fed

and there are no fillers. I can not find a very high quality goats

milk in my area.

We have tried to determine whether the yogurt is legal, but I don't

think anyone has been able to get White Egret to tell which

strains of bacteria they use to make their yogurt. That's the

problem. Yogurt made with bifidus would be illegal.

I am not sure where you live, but I know that Caprine Estates will

sell milk through the mail. Last I heard, they gave a significant

discount by going on their automated 2 week shipment program.

Hi ,

From their website http://www.whiteegretfarm.com/html/yogurt.html , "

Probiotic Strains in White Egret Farm Yogurts

We do not add any Streptococcus thermophilus or Bifidobacterium species to

the yogurt culture. Those two groups of organisms have been of concern to

certain groups of people. We do add Lactobacillus delbrueckii, and

Lactobacillus delbrueckii subspecies, including lactis, bulgaricus, and

leichmanii. For the very interested, several probiotics that once stood

alone as independent species have now been incorporated into the species

delbrueckii. "

Elaine recommends that we use yogurt starter that includes at least both S.

thermophilus & L. bulgaricus. It is okay if it also includes L.

acidophilus. This yogurt includes extra strains which she has not

recommended.

I've also read both of the books by this author and have investigated

the White Egret Farm yogurt. They do put in bifido bacteria (which is

not legal on SCD) so I bought a yogurt maker and make my own per SCD.

Hope this helps.
