Have you tried the vinegar yet, ? I've been using it for years. I have fairly intense grease issues and that vinegar sure has helped! Cuts the grease on the stove and/or counters and I'm doing so much better now. LOL I use it for cleaning pretty much anything... kitchen, bathroom, windows and other glass, in the laundry, etc., etc., etc... Vinegar is great, too, because it's an anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral. Ahhhh, I'm a fan of the vine-gar, couldya tell? Challis,

When we got Roxie and Pepper, well actually before we brought them home, we started learning how to care for parrots properly. Such as their diet.. can't just feed them seeds and expect them to live long and healthy lives.. There was so much to learn.. but.. the ONE thing we did learn was... White Vinegar and Peroxide were THE most effective disinfectants and cleaners in the world! Also cheaper than all get out.. One spray bottle with White Vinegar, and one with Peroxide... Doesn't matter the order you use them in, but you spray one on the surface and then the other... even stuck on birdie poop that you can't scrape off with a putty knife will wipe right off anything if you let this mixture set for about 5 minutes... This combination will also kill any bacteria on a kitchen counter, including the Salmonella virus!!!

I know a guy who never in his entire life, and he's into his 50's now.. used a tooth brush or tooth paste.. Nope.. not even baking soda & a tooth brush.. A tooth brush was no where to be found in his house.. at least not with HIS name on it... Never had a cavity in his life either... and he's still got ALL his own teeth too!!!... How???

Peroxide!!!

Not full strength.. he said cut 10 to 1 with water... and just swish it around thoroughly for a couple of minutes.. then spit and rinse! Never swallow either.. but he always had the cleanest whitest teeth you'd ever want to see..

Go figure.. a 59 cent bottle of Peroxide from time to time saved him how many thousands of dollars over the years???

I think there is actually more to be said about old grannies home remedies and methods of cleaning than most care to admit...

You wouldn't believe some of the things I have used, and have passed on to younger generations, that I learned from my mother... who most likely learned them from her mother and so on and so forth...

My mother brought her nephew home from the hospital. His mother died in birth, and no one else on either side of the family would bring him home.. I suppose now-a-days they would name it something like "failure to thrive".. maybe they did they as well.. I don't know for sure... But Bobby just would NOT put on any weight at all.. and he was going to die.. His doctors told mom that for a fact... Mom wouldn't take that for an answer (maybe because none of us had been born yet, and she'd already lost one or two to miscarriages)...

Mom lived pretty far away from her mother, and I doubt that they had a telephone, or maybe they did and her mom didn't have any suggestions for her. But mom went to visit my dad's Aunt Sadie, who had a son that was born the same way... (Incidentally, he just recently passed away, well into his 80's, and was a stocky over 6 foot tall mountain man!)... She asked Aunt Sadie what she did.. Aunt Sadie told her... "Graham Crackers"... When they are tiny babies, you crush Graham Crackers and pour the formula (probably milk back then though mixed with Karo and such) over the crushed graham crackers.. creating a really thin gruel type substance.. that a baby can suck off the spoon (they didn't have the cereal type nipples then either)... and as they get older you can make it thicker...

Mom did that every two hours.. day and night... When she took Bobby back to the doctor at two weeks or so... He was amazed.. and then declared that Bobby just might survive after all... He continued to put on weight, and lived to his 30's.. unfortunately, he died of Lymphoma, that they never knew he had until he developed walking pneumonia.. by then it was too late..

From the time Bud was born.. and in 1974.. I don't think they were feeding babies yet, or not recommending feeding babies anything BUT formula for the first who knows how many months... I fed him the graham cracker secret.. and he even had mashed taters a time or two.. (before the salt & pepper were added)... I didn't keep anything away from him.. and the ONLY problem he ever had with his diet, was citric acid... and then only if he ate TOO many oranges.. he'd break out in hives.. and he loved oranges.... LOL

My brother's first wife was pulling her hair out because Charity was up every two hours or less, looking for a bottle... Mom kept telling her.. She's hungry!! Feed her!! Debbie wouldn't hear of it.. because the wonderful pediatrician she had (also the same ped, that told me that kids don't get migraines!)... told her not to give the baby anything other than formula... Then came the day that they asked mom to babysit... LOL.. Well as soon as they were gone, and Charity woke up for feeding.. Mom broke out the Graham Crackers!!! They weren't gone for long.. but when they got home Charity was sound asleep... They took her home.. and Charity remained SOUND asleep.. for HOURS!!!! Debbie called and asked mom what she did... Mom just replied.. I filled her belly!!!... Debbie started using the graham cracker recipe too..

's niece's first daughter... had a problem with formula.. it didn't agree with her.. and they changed her so many times.. and the last stuff that did agree with her also constipated this baby to NO end.. She was fussy ALL the time!!! Beverly was babysitting for her for a few days.. She called me... wanting to know what to do.. So I told her.... GRAHAM CRACKERS... lol... Beverly did just that... and within a few hours.. the baby was sleeping peacefully with a full belly and an empty colon... I'm pretty sure that the babies mom (who is a registered nurse no less).. tossed the bottle of baby laxative in the trash and laid in a supply of Graham Crackers.. LOL..

And I found out that mustard plasters actually DO work... lol.. and you can use prepared bottled mustard in a pinch...

Val, don't worry about us thinking about your cleaning habits it happens to the best of us. I am a clean freak and had the same thing happen to me in my 20's (pre MS). I also lived in one of those great little trailors and cleaned dilligently everyday and still had a few mushrooms grow in the floor crease right next to the toliet. Bleach and other cleaners are by choice my defence and still had a few grow. I know what you are saying when it happens to you. Tryed to clean with it, all over the house it really does a good job. I kind of scared my self with it though..... I used it to clean the bathroom and sprayed a little Oust in the room once all done, when I retured to the bathroom it had a BAD oder, smelled like raw sewage and really powerful smell. I forgot to flush the toliet when I took Victorya to potty last and that was the smell along with vinegar and Oust not a good smell. I forgot to ask but do you know if it is bad to put vinegar down the drains when you have a septic tank? Living in the country is great, just got to get use to not flushing somethings with the septic tank and being carefull with cleaners. Lovew to all,

We live out in the country too and I would like to know that also. Chuck's uncle was a maintenance man in a hospital and when they had a clogged drain they would put some baking soda in the drain and then pour some vinegar in the drain. It would bubble up and clean out the drain. I used to do it a lot when we lived in town to just freshen up the drains.

I actually dread the upcoming conversion to "city sewage" in a few years. I've always lived with a septic system around the house... It took my old house's septic system 75 years to fill up enough with "solids" that we had to have an old fashioned "honey dipper" come out and clean the tank.

Vinegar isn't a problem being put down drains or toilets... Though something you might want to consider doing a few times a year... Get a small cake of yeast.. the kind you use to make bread dough. Mix up it just as if you were going to mix up a batch of bread or rolls... Once the yeast is working... flush it down the toilet...

It works way better than any commercial product on the market, and is much less expensive as well.

My mom ALWAYS did this.. she did it anytime she had a cake of yeast start to mold because she couldn't use it to make the pizza shells for the business.. even though it has started to mold, it will still "work" when mixing it with the warm water, and sugar.... Guess it restores the bacteria content in the tank.. and helps to keep it running smoothly. I know that when ours finally did contain enough to need pumping... The guy was going to charge us for being there, and only being able to pump out a couple inches.. it was up to us to get it worked loose and then call him back.. to be charged the full rate again...

We asked him if he could hang out for just a few minutes... Carlee, my sister-in-law ran up to the pizza shop, grabbed a cake of yeast, mixed it up and when it started working, brought it out and dumped it straight into the tank... on top of the solids remaining... they boys doing the work.. added some water with a hose, and used rakes or something to "stir it up".. within 15 minutes or so.. the honey dipper guy was able to pump out the tank.. and we were all set for another 75 years!!!

He used his waiting time to tell us about a new "personal" sewage treatment plant that was on the market and that the water was clean (and healthy enough) to drink when it came out the other side.... That would be great for the ecology.. but I AIN'T taking the first sip... sorry.. LOL...

However, if you even drop something as small as a bobby pin into the toilet.. not matter what else is in there.. you have to reach in and pull it out.. cause if you don't.. it's not much fun snaking the drains until you do.... at a later point in time.. :(

The old "vinegar fizz"... LOL... Great for indigestion.. ya know when ya gotta burp and just can't????... Put a little bit of vinegar.. maybe half an inch, in a glass.. Add water to about 2 inches... Definitely need to add some sugar.. at least a teaspoon.. Stir that all together until the sugar at least starts to dissolve... Then comes the finale.... But be standing over the kitchen sink.. and NOT wearing glasses as you do the next step... Take about a half a teaspoon of baking soda.. and be ready...

Give the spoon a swirl in the glass, then start drinking as it's fizzing... try to drink it all as quickly as possible.. once it's done fizzing, there's no reason to drink anymore.. so dump the leftover out... It's a guaranteed cure for indigestion...

However, there was once a note of warning on that one... be absolutely sure that it IS in fact indigestion causing the pain... If you do the Vinegar Fizz and it would not be indigestion... you could run into serious problems..

LOLOL Oops? LOL Vinegar can stick pretty strong, too, if you don't leave good ventilation and that's aside from Oust or potties not flushed. LOLOL Vinegar is fine for the septic. Many of the cleaners won't be, and bleach is a huge no-no. Do you add anything (flushing) to help the septic? I know some people will flush yeast. My water is too cold for that in any case. LOL How about Rid-X? That stuff can be used, JIC, to restore the uck-eating enzymes and such? Though I wouldn't worry about using it every month... and I don't. LOL Challis "lastinline10@..." wrote: Tryed to clean with it, all over the house it really does a good job. Living in the country is great, just got to get

Hehehe... I still get tickled watching the vinegar and baking soda fuzzle. LOL One day I was in a rush and dumped the grease from cooking burger down my sink. As soon as the bowl dumped I realized what I'd done and my heart was between my toes. lol I flipped on HOT water and poured soap in. No go. It was plugged and plugged hard. Not any bit of water was getting through. So, after leaving it for a few hours, I took a bit of the bottled lemon juice (for cleaning), heated it a bit and dumped it in the sink. There were the strangest and ugliest noises, then swoosh! Everything worked great! Yay me! LOLOL I also like adding leftover, cut up, lemon rinds to the garbage disposal and running through. Smells so much nicer! Challis nne Svihlik

We had our septic pumped a few years ago. It shouldn't have been full, going by the "inspection" from when we were buying (yes, it was never actually inspected ). We also had to redo the leech lines, with a friend bringing his backhoe over and digging the lines up. Thank goodness for such friends! Then dug by hand and shovel. The lines were plugged and had to be unplugged. Ohhh, the things the previous owners put in there. Minipads to condoms and so on. Poor . Each year, right around his birthday or Father's Day, inevitably was under the house, pulling pipes apart, then digging his way to the septic. It's been much better since we've pumped the septic and redone the lines. lol has been doing work for a couple who owns the local Roto-Router

business (he remodeled their bathroom at their house, has been doing work on their new building and will be going back this weekend for more - they are such sweet people!). I'd stopped in one day and the couple's adult son was there, chatting with . He introduced us... "this is the guy who pumped our septic..." ROFL Nice to meet ya again! Challis |}onna wrote: , I actually dread the upcoming conversion to "city sewage" in a few years. It works way better than any commercial product on the market, and is much less expensive as

well. Carlee, my sister-in-law ran up to the pizza shop, grabbed a cake

of yeast, mixed it up and when it started working, brought it out and dumped it straight into the tank... on top of the solids remaining... they boys doing the work.. added some water with a hose, and used rakes or something to "stir it up".. within 15 minutes or so.. the honey dipper guy was able to pump out the tank.. and we were all set for another 75 years!!! He used his waiting time to tell us about a new "personal" sewage treatment plant that was on the market and that the water was clean (and healthy enough) to drink when it came out the other side.... That would be great for the ecology.. but I AIN'T taking the first sip... sorry.. LOL... However, if you even drop something as small as a bobby pin into the toilet.. not matter what else is in

there.. you have to reach in and pull it out.. cause if you don't.. it's not much fun snaking the drains until you do.... at a later point in time.. :( |}onna Re:

Challis I never heard of using lemon juice. I will have to remember that.

Hehehe... I still get tickled watching the vinegar and baking soda fuzzle. LOL

One day I was in a rush and dumped the grease from cooking burger down my sink. Yay me! LOLOL

I also like adding leftover, cut up, lemon rinds to the garbage disposal and running through. Smells so much nicer!
