I have a Catalouge of Stuff for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. If you want a copy

of the Catalouge, I can mail you one Chantelle.

Sincerely yours; Krista Bach.

Hi Chantelle,

Congratulations on finding your own apartment. That is AWESOME...good for

you! What fun you will have moving in and making it YOURS! Think of the

time you will save not commuting!

But, it worries me to think that you will rely on neighbors to wake you in

case of a fire. There are devices that have been specifically designed for

people who are deaf or hard of hearing what will wake them. Some have

strobe lights and some have vibrators which you can place under your pillow

or between your mattress. When the detector senses smoke, it will start the

vibration and/or strobe. Here is the link for Communications, which

is a company started by a man who is deaf......I think he is a trained

psychologist who preferred sales and started this company about 20 years

ago. I believe it is one of the biggest in the nation. Here is the link

specifically for smoke detectors. Prices range from $49 to $285. I know

it's just " one more thing " , but perhaps you can get a grant for it.

Andy has purchased his vibrating alarm and doorbell signaler from them.

Www.harriscomm.com has all sorts of things related to hearing loss - books,

pagers, caption devices, special phones, videos, etc. It's a learning

experience just to look at everything!
