hi Kate,

my ON is in my left eye. It is constantly hurting, like big object is in it. My vision in that eye is bad and like you say gray. If I close my right eye, I hardly can see anything out of my left. My right eye is still great, no pain, vision problems.

I thank all of you that showed concern after my last episode of Pain and discomfort. I am still fighting the pain but it seems to be getting tolerant. Now my cardiac says I have congestive heart failure. I have been on water pills for a few days and have lost about 15 pounds of water.

Oh it is so hard to get old. LOL

For me, the pain came after the diminished vision. What was strange, is the night before I was hit with ON the left side of my face and around the eye area kept feeling like there was cobwebs on me. Such a strange sensation. I kept brushing the invisable webs away. Then the next morning, when I got out of bed, my right eye was blurry. It felt like there was a film over my eye. I thought it was mucus or something. I kept rubbing my eye; I even washed it out, thinking that would help. It didn't, it just got worse as the day progressed. By evening time I was having pain in my eye. The pains came and went for about a week. I figured I was just straining the eye too much trying to see. The pain did finally go away. I lost all vision out of that eye for about a month. No vision at all...not even light. But, after awhile my eyesight seemed to be coming back. I was so excited about it, I even posted on here that I thought I might be recovering. I did, to a certain point. It's been 10 months now. I still don't have full vision, and at this point, I've all but lost hope that I ever will. My fear now is, I may lose sight in my left eye as well.

A long answer to a short question, right? So sorry...

ON

For those of you who have had optic neurits; I've only had one 'attack' of that--but am finding I am having some rather bad pain (again) in my right eye--mainly on movement, but sometimes without movement. The vision is a bit grey out of that eye--I certainly can see, but the vision seems a bit diminished. How has your ON presented? With pain first? Or vision changes first? I called my neuro's office to let the sec'y know I'm on day #2 of this eye 'business' and should I see an eye doc? wait? or see Dr. Decker (neuro)? She said she'd ask him and call me back. She called back and said he'd like me to come in on Monday. So, I guess that gives the wk end to see if it clears up or not.

love to all, kate

and group,

As a friend of mine who also has congestive heart failure says:

"It beats the alternative, however!" I think that given that the

'alternative' is always awaiting us anyway, that this is relatively

true, but I am so sorry to hear of this congestive heart failure.

Diuretics can be life-saving, however. I have chronic lung

disease, so I take Furosamide (Lasix) and Potassium Chloride--

spaced out over the day so I do not have to waddle to strange

outhouses in the dark.

Love to you, , and to all in our group,

n, whose family just collects conditions. . .

Kate,

My last bout started with the pain.. on movement.. and then things kind of grayed out.. as well.. but then for quite awhile I couldn't handle a white chat screen much either.. was way too bright... I had what I described as... that thing that happens after you've looked into the sun and then look away... only I didn't look into the sun..

Sad part is... after it finally went away.. and the Prednisone was NO help, other than to put weight on me... it took about 3 months for me to not notice it anymore... but it seems today that I'm noticing the spot some.. No pain this time, just the spot.. I'm hoping it came from the office being too hot for the second day in a row.. and then I spent some time sitting in the warm car after I got to the funeral home to pick up... but I've been in the "cool" now for about a half an hour.. and it hasn't really gotten any better.... yet.. maybe when I've started to shiver, and reach for a blanket in here... it will have gone.. LOL...

! Thanks first of all for writing...I'm so very sorry to read of your CHF! 15 lbs! That is

an incredible loss in a short period of time! What are the other treatments for this condition

besides a diuretic? Does your neuro know about this recent dx? I hope you are feeling better,

and this ON resolves real soon. love to you, kate

HI Kate,

I am seeing the neuro this next week, My cardiac guy wants me to try to coordinate to see if I should be hospitalized. MY VA doc wants me in so I will probably go in next week. I don't know of any other treatments for CHF. I know my blood test of last week showed I didn't need Potassium, since I eat a banana every day. My eye got worst today, so much pain when I look side ways. I am wearing a patch all the time now. I got a pair of eye patches that I freeze and put them on my head. I can't stand it very long, but with a towel under it, It is tolerable. I try to keep the right one above my eye so I can fumble around.

Thanks for your concern, this group is so good for my morale. I really felt like crap last week and got so many responses of concern. I felt cared for.

Love to ya,

Love to ya,

I did not see your early post—CHF?

Congestive heart failure? My mother also suffers from this. It makes her

breathing difficult and it is hard for her to move around. I know that she is

treated with diuretics to relieve some of the fluid.

I will keep you in my prayers…let us know how things go with the doctor.
