Guest guest
Pear sauce (1 1/2 cups + per day)seems to be the answer to 's constipation (cautious cheer; full report later). But I am having trouble finding Barletts, especially ripe ones when I need them. I'm going to have to resort to some other kind of pear. Could someone please give me any tips you know on how to tell when green, brown, and red pears are actually ripe? Or are frozen pears available anywhere? Oh, and I seem to remember seeing dietetic pears canned in water years ago. I assume they would be ok if I can find them, right? Thanks, , mom to , age 8, ASD, finishing up third week since starting intro

Think banana - firm when just yellow, really soft when very brown. And yes, I think I remember seeing frozen pears at my local food co- op. I'm sure they are out there, somewhere. Guest guest
I use D'Anjou pears (the green ones). I buy them when they're hard and after about 5 days (could be a little less) they soften up, get juicier and smell really good. The trick is to buy a little ahead so that you have some ripening while you're using an ripened batch. I've never seen any ripe ones where I shop. They also seem to keep for a good while after they are ripe.
